Realistically do turtles actually need the 10 gal/inch? Or is 5-8/inch enough? Assuming basking area, big ass canister filter, enough hornwort and floaters to survive turt, etc.My kiddo really wants one and the local mom's group has one trying to be rehomed. Uromastyxs are closer to what I am looking at in comparison to skinks or beardeds which I am keeping an eye on but if there are other reptiles which are more fugly/fat/rotund/wrinkly/stocky it would be appreciated. Amphibians are not much of problem for me because I am used to the care requirements for my frog but obviously most of the amphibians that check off my list are frogs which I already have (once you get a frog you have practically seen them all behavior wise).

Every account I have read about alligator snappers being kept as pets always seems to be something the keeper has regretted but too deeply invested in to stop and turn back. Common snappers on the other hand are far more active and you can actually socialize to some degree so you can have them free roam around you or stroke the back of their shells without trouble. As long as you dont outright shove your hand or foot in their face you face no risk and at worse it would mean losing a digit or two as aposed to a whole hand or foot. The other thing I am concious of is lifespan and my own lifestyle as I am only 25 and thinking of having a family someday. These fuckers live 50+ so if I get an alligator that's a risk around kids and if I die or get too old it would mean it would have to be destroyed most likely. A common snapper though would be more manageble and relatively safer/ish with a family as long as I keep it contained and my kids away from it.

Idk what to do. Waffles been doing… okay since the surgery cutting out the goiter/tumor in his throat. He eats, but still not nearly as much as he used to and he is kinda skinny compared to what he was. I still think getting the surgery was the right move but I worry his thyroid might just be fucked up forever now. He hasn’t shed this grey patch for like 2 months in fact he hasn’t shed at all. Is it normal for giant geckos to go for long periods without eating? Mine hasn't eaten for a week and I have changed his powder feed everyday. I have even tried hand feeding him several times and despite being able to do the trick to get him to lick his nose to taste the feed he still hasn't eaten.

Do people actually change out their substrate every 3 months? Feels like this is one of those care guidelines armchair experts (who don't actually own reptiles) recommend but nobody actually does. I change it out every year (or two) but it's always really fucking messy and annoying to do with how much substrate you need to dig out, I just don't believe this is a regular part of someone's routine.

My leachi is doing well after almost 2 months since I first got him. He's been hiding a lot more so I don't get him out as much, but hes eating from his food bowl here and there if I am not catching him sneaking about when he thinks I am in another room. However, the store manager I rehomed him off has contacted me recently to let me know that some of the eggs of her current leachi breeding pair has hatched and sent me pic rel.I have told them to keep me in the loop about the sex of the leachi as I have heard that males and females can cohab, is this true? And if so what would I need to expect from having a male and a female in the same enclosure?

I would suggest mixing in stuff like superworms, but superworms breed way too fast for their own good, and they'll make up for a minority of the overall diet.Crickets are almost a must, however. Try to keep it at least 3-4 regulars, shifting through. Start breeding insects now, because you'll need it - otherwise, good luck paying for them all. Dubias especially, to feed an ackie, you might want 3+ active ~30-gallon bins' worth of roaches breeding.

My leopard gecko has recently been diagnosed with hypovitaminosis A, which is a vitamin A deficiency. It was originally misdiagnosed, and I went back to the vet for an answer after the antibiotics didn't clear everything up. I unfortunately learned the hard way that better supplementation is needed for the insects I feed him.He is currently doing a bit better, but he is still in need of help, and my vet has given me Fluker's Liquid Vitamin. I was directed to put a drop on an insect four times a week.The gecko absolutely hates the stuff. He will refuse to eat insects that have the vitamin on them. I decided to give it directly via syringe instead, as the directions say you can do that, and I've never seen such a blatant display of pure disgust before. Shaking his head several times, frantically rubbing his mouth on the ground trying to remove any of the substance around his mouth, moving his neck as if he was trying to get a bug down. I felt pretty bad about it, I'm sure it's disgusting.Upon Googling it, I came across some anecdotal reports of Fluker's Liquid Vitamin causing deaths in leopard geckos and other herptiles. He didn't seem to get sick from what I gave him, but between his extreme reaction to it and these personal reports, I am admittedly nervous.My question is, should I be continuing to give Fluker's Liquid Vitamin to the gecko despite his tantrums, or should I be looking into alternatives? I have not tried putting it in his water yet, I've heard you can do that to dilute it. But I do not want to do that if it is going to be a danger to my gecko. I'd like to believe my vet, but I thought it would be best to get a second opinion from people who actually own lizards themselves.

Forum powers may misattribute the death of an animal to a vitamin when their husbandry was poor in other respects, or they might have caused hypervitaminosis, instead of hypo. A 4th branch intersects at the top a across them all. I have redone the hides because I found out I did a colossal fuck up in not providing any bar a small hide and the large centre hide anx how that is going to mess up my leachie. I have also been told my branch setup is fucked as there is not enough arboreal room, but I have found he can still navigate to the top and sit in is perch shown in pic.
New baby bloodred corn. Still need a name. And maybe a couple more things for him to climb around on but he's being shy and spending most of his time buried for now.

One of the more popular venomous keepers on youtube will often find them and show them to the audience when he's cleaning his enclosures (people have even been envenomated by a loose fang with residual venom in it that was in the snakes poop after they swallowed and passed it).3) fangs are teeth and they need to be functional/piercing in order for the snake to eat, they use their teeth, fangs included, to pull food into their throats4) actually grabbing a venomous snake and fucking with their fangs is probably considerably more dangerous than just letting them be and being careful to not put yourself in a situation where you'd get bit 5) the actual thing people do to turn venomous snakes harmless is called a venomoid surgery, where they cut the snakes face open and remove the venom glands, replacing them with glass beads or silicone, but no one but shit-ass thirdies does venomoid surgeries anymore because they fuck up the snake's face, and there have been cases where either the surgery did not fully remove the gland, or it regenerated and an ostensibly venomoid snake killed a guy.
