>>5034454I did this same thing with 5 prometheas this year too (most just fell out of their cocoons and couldn’t climb back up in time) and only one out of the five pupated correctly. I experimented with different types of paper towel and the cheap brown stuff seems to be the only type that they pupate in correctly for some reason. Once they’ve pupated I cut the fake cocoon open and they’re able to make it out just fine. Only done this twice before, picrel was a columbia-gloverii that couldn’t spin silk but came out beautifully. I’d love to know if the issue is caused by external damage to the gland or something else, I don’t have the heart to hold them under a microscope to examine it when they’re already stressed and so pathetic looking

Got my cribs in. What do you guys think is worth putting in here for the black widows? I have some spare dirt and pebbles from a recent terrarium project, could probably make these tiny little bioactive spider houses but could maybe also just go with some sticks to keep it simple and clean.
Found these brown and mottled colored rolypoly type invertebrates in my Mom's hair, all dead. We're in the American southeast, what are they? They're so tiny it's hard to get a clear picture of them without a proper small scale camera.

Got them moved in. They're staying still hoping I don't see them, but hopefully they will start making new webs soon.

SPEED spider from the desert>>5037203TY for the update pics. These are very well made enclosures. I feel like they are still too small, and the spiders could make some very large webs in a larger plastic tub.
Oh well either way no point in moving them now. I've heard making webs takes a lot of energy so moving them now will probably do more harm than good.

They're cleaner than I thought. They each trapped the crickets in like the corners/against the walls of their enclosure, but then dragged them up and displayed the bodies right in the dead center of their webs while they fed. And now that they're done they've kicked the husks down into the substrate below. Pretty neat.
When they’re well behaved they can have a treat. Fortunately for us both they’re always well behaved
