Just got this thing for almost nothing, Tasco 1959 7TE 60mm Refractor. Gonna put a camera on it.There is a lake up here in Northern Maine where the last few winters a number of people have taken photos of what they think is a mountain lion but they are always too far away and using cellphones. My neighbors kid loves the outdoors but got paralyzed from the chest down, we are trying to think of something cool for him to do. What does /a/ think about the idea of setting him up in a heated blind, leaving out bait then seeing if he can get a clean shot of it from a mile or so away and any advice for success?

>>5039896>Adaptive skiingUm, yeah but basically the idea is to set him up in a heated blind (no problem there) and get photo proof of it. We are thinking bait sites out on the ice with 2, 4 and 6 foot range poles so we can prove the size. We are thinking that we could even set up the telescope with a NV monocale between the telescope and camera so we can take night shots. We would put IR glow sticks on the poles to back light the bait spots with angled plates so the sticks aren't directly viewable by the camera. What we need help with is cougar baiting.
>>5039907Yeah crippled kid ought to make decent cougar bait
>>5039907>What we need help with is cougar baiting.just find any semi-attractive man in his teens or early 20s
>>5039891>using your neighbors kid as cougar bait
>>5039891That sucks to hear. Try put it as close to where the sightings were to maximise the chances of actually running into it. Smelly meats are definitely the best as bait, and even if you don’t see the mountain lion he’ll probably at least get to see a fox or something
>>5039891Is there going to be an adult with a gun
>>5040272Yes, he has one too.>>5040271He'll have a clear view of the entire lake. I need to experiment with how far the camera and telescope can take a shot but he will have at a minimum a 1 mile radius circle, probably 1.5. It is only seen during active ice fishing season so it's obvious that it is going after discarded fish, since me and his dad will be fishing at the same time the bait to use is obvious. We have both trapped Bobcat before so we plan to treat it like any other cat.

Might want to think about picking up a focal reducer on top of the rest of your gear. One thing you'll find out about too is how crappy achromats are for imaging... chromatic aberration and color fringing are going to be your enemies for terrestrial work, especially in low light.
