every dog I've had will bark to alert if someone is outside of the house even if they love people; there are breeds like cane corsos/kangals that will maul a stranger who enters a home if untrainedcats and even dogs can dispatch a lone rat with relative ease as long as it doesn't have a hiding spotif you mean can cats clear a rodent infestation with no other help the answer is no, because rats breed too quickly
