my sister has had this hedgehog for years. for the first however many of them, this little guy spent them in her closet, under the stairs, in the dark. she just moved out a month or so ago and so we brought the hedgehog upstairs. i think unfortunately he was pretty neglected in terms of like, social interaction. i dont know exactly how old he is, maybe 3 years old, but i would like to at least make friends with him because hes super cute. he sniffed at me for a long time and is comfortable running on his wheel next to me, but hisses like crazy if i even so much as move my hand a little close to him. how can i become his friend? or should i just sit and appreciate his cuteness
>>5046950>he was pretty neglected in terms of like, social interactionHedgehogs aren't pet, and they're not social animals. They live alone.
>>5047096damn theyre just like me
>>5047096so hes okay? what if i get him lots of treats
>>5047248Release it in a forest without badgers.
>>5047622would he be able to do okay?
>>5047707Yes. They are wild animals. Keeping a hedgehog is cruel.
>>5047096My hedgehogs have all been highly social and get upset if I don't pay attention to them or pet them. The myth that hedgehogs are asocial is really stupid. Especially if you're talking about African Pygmy hedgehogs like OPs.1. Get your hedgie accustomed to your scent. Put a shirt you wear in it's cage for it to use as bedding.2. Get cuddle sacks. It gives them a safe place to be while you hold them.3. Your hedgie will probably be terrified at first, because they're prey animals. Expect huffles, hisses, grunts, and popping sounds. Mine all did this in the first couple of weeks until they became accustomed to my smell, my presence, and the sound of my voice. Now they climb all over me and even chirp happily at me. (Weird...I know.)4. Be patient. They're little and to them you are a giant. Don't force affection. Just gradually let them come to you. At first, you might be just holding them and nothing more.5. Pay attention to their attempts to communicate with you. Each hedgehog has their own way of doing so.My first hedgie had specific scritches for different things. Left paw (soft scritches) was for momma (my fiance). Both paws (hard scritches) were for daddy (me). Furious scritching was for when she had to take a shit.Anyway, you get the basic idea.
>>5047707No. It will almost certainly die, it has never learnt to survive in the wild. He’s trolling you
>>5048020Fuck off schizo.
>>5048037Have sex, trooncel.
>>5046950No animal that is kept as a pet is wild or able to survive in the wild. Dont listen to these schizo subhumans. Take care of the little guy as much as you can so he has at least a bit of a nice life. And punch your retarded sister im the face for abusing him.
>>5048375This.
>>5046950You could lock your sister in a closet.See if she likes it. I think she won't.
