I'm in a hotel and this was on the bed. This is a bed bug, isn't it? It's massive, so I'm hoping it's a lookalike. God damn it.
>>
>>5047556
>massive
I'd estimate it at around 5mm, which is what google says adults reach. Pretty confident it's a bed bug but hoping an anon will chime in and confirm or correct. Booking a new place in the middle of the night isn't fun.

I have decided that this is indeed a bed bug. Let the archive show that I will not tolerate such filth. Also, protip: Google Lens can identify bugs. Have a nice day, anons.

Late to the thread, but that's 110% a bedbug.
Before you sleep at your beg at home boil your clothing in a hot water cycle and/or package them up in a plastic garbage bag and just dump them. Bedbugs don't stay on your body during the day, but instead live in the mattress and stowaway on people's clothing/luggage.
>>
>>5047584
I went to a different hotel. I set one of my bags on that bed for about 15 minutes, but otherwise my gear was on a shelf, except for my luggage which is on wheels. I checked the mattress seams before I left and they looked very clean. I don't know how there was just one fully grown bedbug but no obvious infestation. My luggage is soft nylon material... what are the chances I picked these things up? I am tempted to throw it out and buy a new one.

I plan to wash everything I brought with me tomorrow and I will be naked until then. Disgusting!

go full scorched-earth

>what are the chances I picked these things up? I am tempted to throw it out and buy a new one.

Pretty good actually.
Separate your clothing/luggage, put it in a garbage bag, and throw it out.
>>

>>5047616
How can I be sure these fuckers didn't get in my car? How is the world not covered in bedbugs if they are so easily spread? I am beyond disgusted. I hardly mind throwing everything I was traveling with away, but I hate to do that only to have the bugs reinfest things because there's one hiding in my trunk or something.
>>
>>5047556
Don't just look at it. Eat it.
>>
>>5047556
ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY THIS IS A BED BUG! Dude, I am not kidding, these things are extremely hard to get rid of and they are going to make your life a living hell.
>>
>>5047556
I'm so sorry.
>>
>>5047616
>Separate your clothing/luggage, put it in a garbage bag, and throw it out.
What am I supposed to separate, exactly? Can they hide in electronics? I can throw everything but my work laptop out - I didn't have much else with me other than clothing and toiletries.
>>
>>5047556
>hotel
Take the DIY camper van pill.
>>
>>5047556
Thats a bedbug, as others have told you. At this point, dump all clothing and your luggage. Hell, buy flip flops and throw your shoes out. Its not worth having this bastards in your home. Shit anon, leave a massive negative review of that hotel and warn others, I'd be pissed.
>>
>>5047977
Put your laptop in a bag and hope for the best, they probably shouldn't e in there but look in all the sockets and shit just to make sure.

Heat does kill bedbugs efficiency. 125f.
>>
>>5047979
Really? Seems extreme. Why can't you soak clothing in special cleaners, and put electronics in a hot car for a couple days?
>>
>>5047979
>throw your shoes out
Even my shoes? What a nightmare.
>Shit anon, leave a massive negative review of that hotel and warn others, I'd be pissed.
It's actually an Airbnb in a small city, and I'm afraid to cause trouble... I will have to book another one, and I have to imagine Airbnb owners talk. The place is up for rent again already even though I complained to Airbnb about it (with pictures) and they refunded me.
>>5047978
Why not an RV or a converted box truck? Vans don't seem suited for that.
>>
I haven't woken up with any bites since then, so hopefully I'm in the clear.
>>
>>5047983
RVs aren't stealthy. A high top van is ideal, because it can still be used as a normal vehicle. I want to sell my RV for a box truck.
If you are somewhere alone for only a few days, it's more fun to camp in a van than use a hotel. You van is your tent.
>>
>>5047981
Bed bug eggs are notoriously hardy and the adults are good at getting into things. If they get into your home you are fucked.
>>
>>5047985
The van idea seems nice, but when I've looked into actually converting one, I've gotten the impression that it's much more of a hassle to convert popular van models than it is to convert a box truck which has vertical (wood) walls.
>>
>>5047986
There has to be some chemicals that can kill them. If the house has carpet then I can see it being difficult to fix.
>>5047987
You are completely right about that. Box trucks are also cheaper, and less fuel efficient. High top vans are still better for daily use. It's basically a truck with less towing capacity, and no 4wd.
>>
~Look im an Namefagging Attention Whore,Barnytrannies are nore based than ponyfags, even doe Troons are even more disgusting as Bug chasers~
>>
>>5047983
>I'm afraid to cause trouble...
They have bedbugs in their home and didn't tell anyone, fuck them. Shit anon, don't be timid when it comes to that shit. Bedbugs are a financial sink and people need to be warned, because I'm sure that airbnb aren't gonna do shit unless they are called out on it.
>>
>>5047990
They dig holes in wood and live in light sockets, these fuckers will get everywhere easily.
>>
>>5047993
Hmm my research doesn't agree. They can hide in wood, but not dig into it. 113f for 90 minutes can kill them. This matches with my previous research about leaving furniture in a garbage bag in the hot sun can kill them.
>>
There is a lot of fear around bedbugs. Yes, they are one of the most annoying pests, but it is absolutely possible to get rid of them.

The common advice to throw away all your belongings is useless. Instead, wash everything you can at more than 60C, use a professional-grade home insecticide, a steam cleaner, or an ice bomb. A smoke fogger per room also works.

Check for small black spots around baseboards, and above all treat your home as a precaution right when you return with a broad-spectrum insecticide that has residual effect.

Cover your bed and pillows with anti-bedbug encasements with a proper zip closure (avoid cheap Amazon junk).

It is annoying but not impossible to eliminate them, especially if you act early and keep monitoring.

t. I had them, I researched a lot and even considered making it my business.
>>
>>5047990
The issue is that all bed bug killing chemicals are also highly carcinogenic.
>>
>>5047997
What can I do about items that can't be washed such as paperwork and electronics?
>>5047992
I have to look out for numero uno. I want to leave a bad review because it's the right thing to do, but I objectively gain nothing by warning others and might be risking retaliation. I have a negligent manslaughter charge on my record that shows up when you google my name, so I don't want to be involved in a public shit fight on social media or even in Airbnb reviews or comments.
>>
>>5047556
If you get bed bugs in a hotel dont tell the clerk

I used to work at one and if this happened we'd lock you out of the room and tell all the other hotels you had them

Indian owners you see

After great deliberation, I, your OP, have come to the realization that this situation is untenable. These loathsome creatures—a rootless, international clique of insects, seeking to undermine our unity and strength through their profane nighttime rituals—infiltrate our bedrooms and sofas, spreading their vile influence and sowing discord among our ranks.

These pests do not respect our doors; they are a global scourge, intent on eroding the very foundations of our proud battlestations. They thrive in the shadows, feeding on the discontent they create, and it is our solemn duty to expose their treachery. We must not allow these vile critters to gnaw at the heart of our threads any longer.

We must rise as one, united in our resolve to implement the final solution to the bedbug question. We will cleanse our homes of these insidious creatures, restoring order and strength to our great basements. Together, we will build a future free from the infestation of bedbugs, ensuring that our children inherit spaces that are comfy, cozy, and united.

AI is really shit, honestly. Anyway, I decided to go scorched earth as per the above advice and have replaced everything. Fuck these bugs

Thanks for the advice and feedback ITT

worse: it was denial. I have never seen a bedbug. You should've seen how smug it was scuttling across the comforter as I walked in. Wtf
