How come people against breeding animals that end up having health problems (Liger, pugs, dachshunds) don't ever bring up the cornish cross?
>>

Because birds aren't important to most people
>>
>>5056562
Chickens are born to die; dogs are born to live.
>>
>>5056562
I do. No one wants to pay twice as much for chicken. :(
>>

Because Cornish Cross are perfectly healthy at their slaughter date and they aren’t companion animals that will live with the drawbacks of their twisted anatomy until they graceless expire years later.

Also I’ve never heard anyone call a Liger a bad idea for health reasons. They are bad because they have no value for big cat conservation and just consume resources that could be used for big cat conservation.

Isn't it morally fucked up to breed a creature that can never live peacefully to old age, even if they were designed for slaughter or not?
>>
>>5056571
No because they were bred for a function and fulfill it. If they were bred to die young for the sake of it that would be very different. This is why dog breeds are more controversial to argue as most of the functional uses that come from short lifespan breeds are no longer needed and instead are purely aesthetic like daschunds.

They aren't exactly healthy birds throughout their whole life, especially if you feed them too much food. Very susceptible to leg deformities/lameness, and they can just randomly get heart attacks. Smaller farmers can expect 5-10% mortality and massive commercial operations up to 30%.
Another more interesting aspect about the breed is that almost all of their natural forage and survival instincts have been bred out. They just sit around the food and water all day. If you keep them on grass they'll eat grass and bugs, but they don't really forage/scratch like other chickens.
>>
>>5056562
Because they're stupid.
Stargard shaker pigeons are an affront to nature, but nobody even knows about them.
