How come mushrooms are so overlooked when it comes to nature?/myco/threadA. bisporigera.
Galerina marginata
Coprinus comatus
We can't forget about the most potent hallucinogenic species!Panaeolus cyanescens.
>>5058587Pain in the ass to cultivate
>>5058584Because they don't belong in this planet (they are aliens)
>>5058603I hope that's a joke.>>5058586These guys taste good. Maybe not an everyday mushroom but they taste pretty good.
>>5058619I've found the caps can have a mushy texture. The stipes are good, though.
>>5058650Oh, I just blend them and add them to soup with other mushrooms. So I haven't noticed haha. The caps do look and feel very mushy. Might try using them to make ink one day. Found an old book with a recipe for it.
>>5058587>not living somewhere psychedelic mushrooms grow like weedsI picked about 400 psilocybe semilanceata this weekend. Will last me all year.

>>5058584>How come mushrooms are so overlooked when it comes to natureBecause there a pain in the ass to grow and you cant actually see them 99% of the time.
>>5058779This. At best they will grow for 2-3 weeks depending on flushes but then that's it. You're waiting 3 months for less than a month worth of mushroon caps that go bad in days if you don't pick and dry them. And even then it is very very veey easy to fuck up the cultivation in those 3 months if you so much as let a rogue spore or dust particle land onto your substrate.
Is it true portobello mushrooms have carcinogens in them or something?
>>5058922Yes. Whether or not it's enough to have a detrimental effect on health? Not so much. But it's also worth noting a lot of mushrooms have carcinogenic potential anyway with how susceptible they are during the mycelial colonization stage in absorbing contaminating material. It's part of the reason why you need to ensure a sanitary growing enviroment for mushrooms as not only will mold compete and potentially kill off the mycelial network, but any toxins produced will be retained by the mycelium and potentially transfered to the fruiting bodies as they are pumped with fluid gathered from the mycelium. Then there is the hazard around radiation as a lot of mushroom species love it and are very hardy against it. A common factoid you will hear around the city of Pripyat is that the most radioactive areas are mushroom flourishing zones, with some of the most radioactive organisms being the mushrooms themselves. This is to a point where a lot of mushrooms and fungus in the exclusion zone are melanin rich which gives them this dark appearance as melanin assists in the process of radiosynthesis. If a mushroom is exposed to a lot of radiation they will actual metabolize any ionizing radiation, meaning they grow and feed on gamma rays or x-rays. Not all mushrooms do this, but you can still get edible mushrooms like Oysters that can become contaminated with radioactive isotopes like Cesium 137.>TL:DRDon't worry about it. Mushrooms are a minefield as it is and probably already poisoning you ever so slowly, more slowly than carcinogens in the air around you
>>5058587Took 2g of this shit yesterday and went to space
This season has been very bad
>>5059430This was 2023
>>5058584Truth be told that outside some neat cellular stuff and tastyness they're kinda lame.Just lumps and caps that isn't even the real thing.
