How come humans haven't bastardized cat breeds like they did with dogs?
>>5061909They literally have.
>>5061909People try, but it’s a lot harder because most of the genes that create oddly shaped cats are codominant and fatal in the homozygous condition.Cats are just always so close to genetic oblivion that you can’t mess with them as easily and not end up with rampant still births, while dogs are more flexible and durable, so you can really push the bounds of nature’s design before you run into hard limits.
>>5061909SCOTTISH and FOLDED
>>5061909
>>5061909They have. The ridiculously large muzzles on Maine Coons and as many toes as possible. Munchkins, and dwarfism being added to other breeds like the sphynx. Ruining Oriental's ears to be on the side of the head and floppy. Persians inward-turning faces.
>>5061991needs more smashing and slamming
>>5061996What are the negatives of long muzzles?
>>5062008Nasal infection and cancer is far higher. The irony is that while they should be on paper better off in terms of breathing they are actually more suspectible to breathing problems due to the potential for infection. It's like a cat or dog with large ears.
>>5061909isnt it easier to gmo dogs or some shit like that
For me it's too many toes
>>5061909>Scottish folds>Persians>munchkins>exotic shorthairsThese are some cats breeds which greats sufferings are tied directly to their anatomy which have been selective breed by humans. Whilst there's quite a few more dog breeds that shouldn't exist i think one of the reasons are that dogs have been domesticated and part of our daily lives longer than cats have. Also it is far more common for cats to just be a mixed breeds aka barn cats or domestic shorthairs or whatever you call them. I would even dare to argue that less than a fifth of all cats under ownership are purebred.
>>5061988This guy nails it too Dogs have a high degree of genetic plasticity, meaning the genes that control their physical characteristics can be manipulated relatively easily through breeding. For example, variation in just a few genes accounts for most of the size differences between dog breedscats, not so much
>>5063110Dude looks like he has a wikipedia page of his conquest of western china
