Straight to the point- my cat has run in to fleas for the first time. I didn't notice it until there was a problem. It's being addressed; diatomaceous earth all over the house, yada yada.

That said, I was looking in to over-the-counter sprays to help her, and all of them contain essential oils. It would appear essential oils, even in miniscule, distilled amounts can be toxic to cats. However, there seems to be a lot of misinformation and disinformation on the topic.

I should refrain from using any anti-flea products containing essential oils? How bout Cedarwood oil too? It is marketed as non-toxic or less-toxic, is this true? Should I just refrain from using all products containing any essential oils due to the phenol in them?

I appreciate your opinion, I've just never had to deal with anything like this with mah baby, and I want to make sure I get this addressed without jeopardizing her health. Also, any tips that aren't widely publicized on battling fleas are welcome. Thank you.

Go to vet and get real medicine to kill off the infestation. Afterwards focus on prevention with all the other stuff. Just trust me and go get the good stuff from the vet.

DE does not work very well, and fucking sucks to work with.

I have handled cedar wood. It is extremely aromatic and small quantities of the oil irritate my skin. The smell in enclosed spaces is overpowering. I don't think you should treat your animals with it. That said, it is a quite effective insect repellant.
