I took my old kitty to the vet for the first time and it was very stressing for both and I feel very bad.So my kitty has been sick for I don't know how long, she just moved a little bit less and ate less and less and I just thought that "Well, she's just getting into old kitty metabolism" but I got worried and took her to the vet. It was very sudden and stressful, couldn't even get her used to the carrying kennel, worse when they tried to get a blood sample but couldn't.She's back home, asleep on her favorite spot purring-soothing.They told me she's very underweight and maybe her diet needs more specialized food. But she's too stressed now to eat the new food and I have to take her back tomorrow for the blood sample and that would be 3 days in a row where she has to purr-sooth herself.Any recommendations? She still ate and drank a bit today but it was the food the vet told us to not give her anymore.
>>5065880im sorry anon, how old is she? I hate to say it but cats have a way of knowing when its their time. don't get caught up in the veterinary industrial complex because they will milk you for every dime you've got. whats her name?
>>5065921Don’t necessarily count her out
>>5065921She's 13 but she's still eating and drinking and pooping >veterinary industrial complexThis is Mexico, the place where meds are cheap, even veterinary.I understand I don't earn as much as in the US so is still expensive to me but the checkup was about ~15usd and the bloodwork is ~50usd.And she did got checked up and the veterinarian told me that is just that regular food isn't nutritious for her anymore. While he did recommend "veterinarian grade food" which is 8 times more expensive than regular cat food, that is still $4 per can.And he mentioned that she can still eat tuna and chicken which is just about $1
>>5065921Also, her name is Axel because my little sister named her and she thought it was a male.
>>5065921>I hate to say it but cats have a way of knowing when its their time.I don't really mind my cat dying, that's natural and unavoidable and she's old. I just get very stressed about the wasting and that the methods of taking care of her have to be so brutal. What really hurts me is the concept of a being having complete trust in me and not understanding that the best way to have a painless death is for the person she completely depends on stuffing get her into a cage to be pricked and manhandled. Then returning home, stressed and confused and magically hoping she'll be fine tomorrow until she knows she won't It's the unfairness of it all.I've had family die recently and of course it hurt but I think this hits me more because of the fact that there's no context, no understanding and there wasn't full responsibility.
>>5065939God bless you, empathy towards animals is a virtue not many are capable of.cats do not deal with stress well at all. give her time and comfort. you're feeding we wet food, yes? also post more pics
>>5065946She's resting right now awake and purring-soothing, she usually sleeps on the beds of the family but lately only mine, she did eat a little bit, I mixed the new food with a little bit of juice of the old food but didn't eat a lot, I'm gonna try later. She did drink a lot more than in the past days. I really don't wanna do it to her tomorrow again but I need to be certain of the results of her blood work.Hopefully this is the last time in a long time
>>5065956I hope everything works out ok OP
>>5065956any updates op?
>>5065880Have a similar issue, it was her kidney in my cat's case, she had to endure some days of getting medication and feeding trough IV so if it comes to that it'll depend on how well your cat can handle that type of stress.
>>5066266Hi guys, thanks a lot for the attention. It has been.... frustratingly confusing. The vet actually told me that we shouldn't do the blood studies right now as she needs time to recover from yesterday's visit and that it's very likely her diet only.>As for food she didn't eat a lot last night but she was very relaxed.>This morning when I woke up she wasn't interested but seemed more energetic and woke up to pee.>During the afternoon when I was at work my teen sister fed her and apparently she ate a lot by current standards, almost a third of a tuna can.>I tried to feed her a bit more when I came from work but again she isn't interested, she likes the smell, licks a little and resumes to rest.>Check the water bowl and she did drink a lot of water.Maybe she's just still full from the afternoon tuna and water but she looks weak again.Maybe I'm fucking up because she expects the food in her old plate that I've been avoiding for being cumbersome and rather leaving small human plates at her level.I heard that it was common for cat recovery to not be linear and have it's up and downs as she regulates but I'm not sure.
