Do you think rabbits are cognizant of how cute they are?Not a "le Reddit viral moment" question -- I'm genuinely, seriously curious about this.

>>5071697>we're not do different, you and I...
Do rabbits love and cherish their humans the way dogs do? Do rabbits consider humans "we niggas"? Or do they just view humans as mere conveniences of comfort, the way cats do?
>>5072144rabbits are above such things as having views or opinionstheir brain is dedicated to more important things like having sex
>>5071477200% DEFLATED
>>5072144They're very social creatures, however it doesn't mean they'll necessarily attach to you more than another bun. If you had a lone rabbit and you gave it enough attention, then yes it would be attached to you similarly to a dog, and would experience anxiety when you're away, like a dog. However unlike a dog that is detrimental to a bun's health in the long term. On the other hand, providing another bun companion alleviates this issue but also decreases the chance of either bun attaching to you as much.

>>5075207Not as good as cat but better than dog
>>5075207Pretty bland and there’s the problem of bunnies being too cute to eat. Hares are uglier and harder to feel bad for but they taste even worse. Rabbit is food for desperate people. Just eat fish and birds like a normal person. >>5075220Dog tastes like shit. Like if someone cooled steak that was starting to smell off. Only subhumans eat something literally bred to be a friend. They are so tuned to the lizard brain they have eyebrows. That dirty mexican didnt even tell me until i took a bite of the taco and started to ask if the meat was rotten.

Mochi in the mirror
The night of the day my bun died I bought a bunch of beers and after dinner I got drunk while listening to music. I'm not much of a Metallica fan but for some reason that night I was very drawn to this song, especially the last minute of it. At the time I was also big into a band called Maraton. So now every time I listen to Metallica's Room of Mirrors or Maraton's The Manifest Content, I think of my bun.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edkV2e0wYxshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uMnwu2msbQTell me about your bun's theme song(s), bros
>>5091365I like to leave the radio on when I leave for work in the morning so my bunny has something to listen to. It's on a sleep timer, so it shuts off after an hour. Usually, I have it tuned to some kind of alternative station.
I THINK LOPS ARE THE UGLIEST RABBIT.
>>5091604>go eat a carrot, uglyI hope you find peace.
I just got two buns from a nearby meat farmer white and orange. I regret my decision to go to a breeder rather than rehoming one, but I plan to rescue a third one here in the near future to at least make up for that. The white one is a female named Pinoko (Pino), and the Orange one is named Atom. They are very good rabbits. Both are fixed and healthy. Sadly, I fear that due to the way they were raised during the first three months of their lives, they will never fully relax around me, much less come to desire the physical touch of any human. Can anyone here confirm or deny if this assumption is true?
>>5091630They may, give it time and patience. Hang out with them on the ground level if you can. Slowly bribe them with treats. If they won't eat from your hand, try placing a bowl closer and closer until they become familiar with your presence
>>5091870Thanks for the response. I've actually been doing this every day for about a month now, and honestly, it feels like they really don't give a damn about my presence. I mean, don't get me wrong, I certainly don't want to be overbearing. I don't pet them unless they explicitly ask through body language (which has never happened). That said, they barely even come near me. Their nervousness feels like an impenetrable wall. I don't mind living my life without ever petting them or feeling any affection back from them. I don't blame them, what they lived through has permanently scarred them after all. Still, their health and comfort is paramount to me, and I very much worry about how uneasy they must be feeling at all times of day. I would like them to be at least somewhat at ease living out their lives with me. Anyway, I'll continue doing as you've suggested, and if you have any other ideas I should consider, please do let me know.
smoke weed outside then go indoors around them
>>5091958I'm not sure if you're being sincere. Rabbits are very sensitive to pollutants in the air. Weed is especially toxic to them. Beyond that, I don't smoke. Thanks for the help regardless.
>>5091962They are mammals? Probably not biologically toxic. I said smell like weed not have them eat it.
>>5091890>I've actually been doing this every day for about a month nowEvery rabbit is different but my petshop bun took about half a year before he started feeling warm towards me. Today its pretty funny to see him wake up when I come home from work and then flop and go back to sleep closeby as I unpack. Also now he knows to come and bow when he wants attention/head rubs. So I think the same can still be possible with yours after continued bonding and trust building, they just dont know. I would try things like luring them with hand feeding them their veggies/treats and while they're eating from one hand, massage their head/nose with the other. They might learn hey that feels good, and ask for more.
>>5091890>any other ideas I should considerwe need more context, how do they currently react around you? do they stomp if you get near? try to bite/lunge forward to scratch, run away immediately etc etc earning the trust of a rabbit isn't hard if you go about it the smart way which starts with collecting as much data about how they currently react
>>5091975Ah right, yeah I suppose that although it would likely kill them if ingested, assuming I'm not hot-boxing their room (lol), it's probably a-ok if they breathe a bit of it. Still, I reckon that if they were to inhale an amount that were to have any affect on them at all, the outcome would still be largely negative purely because of how a prey animal would respond to an unfamiliar odor. At best, nothing happens, at worst, they're made somewhat uncomfortable by it. If done daily, they would just get used to the odor and not care one way or another about it. I don't think the odor alone would have any lasting biological impact on them, just the unfamiliarity of it at the start.
>>5091980I will try doing this a bit more. They don't really seem interested in the treats I offer. They don't dislike them, but they'd rather I set them somewhere a few feet away from me rather than take from my hand. There have been a few instances in the past where they did eat from my hand though, but attempting to stroke their heads was too much for them and they fled, I guess feeling the treats were no longer worth it.>>5092098Currently, they just stay away from me. I have not cornered them or anything at any point to illicit a "fight" response. They have never lunged at me, and though they've thumped a few times in distress at a sudden movement I may have accidentally made a few times in the past, they don't do it purely because of my presence. One thing I have not mentioned is our unoptimal living situation. I live in a small 2-story apartment, and share the one room of it with the rabbits upstairs. There's a small 5x8ft space you enter immediately after exiting our room that connects it to the stairs and a bathroom. It feels too small to call it a hallway, but I guess that's what it basically is. Anyway, I let them out of the bedroom daily. They're too afraid to go near the stairs, but they enjoy roaming the small extra space of the hallway/bathroom regardless. The key piece of information here is that I've notice that they're much more willing to be near me when we are not in our room. I figured there's probably something I can do here to capitalize on their heightened curiosity in these moments (aside from just getting on the ground with them), but I'm just not exactly sure what that something would be...
Bun>>5092143I smoked outside at a relatives house and their bunny really liked the smell. I suggest because it would make them curious about you. A lot like how cats like catnip. I did blow some smoke in its face and it seemed to like it. Got hungry afterwards lol. This was also a heavily socialized bunny that played with kids. If you blew smoke in your rabbits faces it would probably amplify their anxiety about you and mane the situation worse.
>>5069992Wait until you see Flemish Giants. TRULY big bun
>>5092145It's actually much easier to form a bond with your bun if you only had one to start with, then adding an additional bun after the first is very comfortable with you.The first bun will continue to be comfortable with you and the second bun will see that and also likely be comfortable eventually. But that's not too relevant now. Keep it in mind in 10 years. If they're willing to be near you when you're not in your room, that means they are pretty secure around you already, just not affectionate. It's probably not a great idea to abuse that trust just yet. One key thing to watch for is if there is something that frightens them (like a sudden loud noise) when you're outside the room, if they run to you, you're golden. Don't be disappointed if they don't though. One thing you can try is sleep on the ground with them. I'm serious. I tried this with one bun who is pretty skittish and she's become much more trusting of me. I am a back sleeper though so this is quite easy for me. I started doing this when she was about three years old btw and now I can pick up and hold her, so never give up.But yeah, otherwise, whatever you do in your room, just keep doing it on the ground with them, whether it be watching stuff or reading or eating. Perhaps not fapping though.
>>5092360>whether it be watching stuff or reading or eating. Perhaps not fapping though.I wonder what kind of buns are into their owners like that...
>>5092360Understood. All things considered, I'm only really spending a little bit of time on the ground with them. I should spend more than just an hour or two, and instead opt to just do whatever tasks I can while sitting/laying on the ground. Funny thing is I was told by some youtuber that rabbits greet by touching each other's noses or like sniffing each other's faces for a split second, so I figured I'd lay on my stomach to see if that would do anything. Here's a video I recorded of Atom (he's usually more skittish and nervous). He walked directly up to me today and touched my nose with his (but not before nudging the camera lol). This gesture alone has really eased my nerves, and, in my eyes, solidified exactly what I need to do. Lay with them more than I already have been. Anyway, thanks for your advice. I may post more in future threads with updates on them, so stay tuned for that I suppose!

>>5093646>>5093675The foster parent is going on vacation, and isn't coming back until the end of the month, and the adoption place is blue balling me a little bit because they said they need to get their exam and annual RHD vaccinations before they can be rehomed. What the fuck>female rabbits have a " uterus duplex," meaning they possess two separate uterine horns and cervices, allowing them to carry two pregnancies at once (superfetation) or even different-aged litters simultaneously if they mate again during gestation, which is possible because they are induced ovulators.

>>5094962>currently 385 repliesNice, thank you anon.
>>5094965Where did you think the term "breed like rabbits" came from? Rabbits evolved those traits because they are prey animals, their numbers get picked off quickly by predators, and in response to that they breed and have a ton of babies to ensure survival by sheer numbers. Rabbits are also sexually mature by 4-6 months for this reason.

>>5100694Yes. It's highly dependent on the dog. In general, you shouldn't expect or encourage them to play together.
>>5100703Why not?
>>5100694Me, My dog was 11y old when I got my bun, I was really scared about it.Never had any problems, except my bun attacking my dog for no reason, my dog never entered my room again because my bun didn’t let him.
>>5100694not personally, but a friend of mine had two elderly bunnies and then got an elderly border collie. They were fine together, though it was always set up so that the bunnies and dog had spaces they could retreat to.One of the bunnies died of old age, then the dog died, then she got a "young but not puppy" collie, then the second bunny died of old age. There were never any bunny/dog violence incidents and the dog never stressed the bunny. The breed will matter - the dogs were a retired ex-herding sheepdog and then a "flunked outta herding class" dog, so not prey drive/"put it in my mouth" dogs. It'd be a very different story with terriers or such, and also it depends on the rabbits.
>>5101004Yeah. I'd imagine something like a German Shepherd dog would be a good pick. Thanks for your story.
>>5100694No, but it's also a bad idea. Highly dependent on both the dog's temperament and breed. I would be ready to have separate areas for each if they don't get along.

Does anyone here have any tips on encouraging rabbits to be more comfortable with leaving their xpen enclosure for free roam time? My two rabbits are slowly getting more comfortable leaving their xpen enclosure, but a vast majority of their time is still spent inside their xpen, even when I have the door for it wide open. Before anyone asks, yes I do have proper flooring for their feet in their designated free roaming area. Does anyone have any books on rabbits? Would love recommendations. I just bought this one recently and am excited to get it in the mail. Looking for autistic-level field guides that have all the breeds and characteristics with nice photos.
>>5104132So... those Jews are indirectly admitting that Jews are crooks, lmao.
>>5104244>>5104132Oy vey
>>5104232I got this from a book sale ages ago but it's a print from 1999 so some of the information may be long outdated, assuming new stuff have been discovered with pet rabbits in the 20 years after that
>>5104132Timestamp?
>>5104244>>5104246>>5104327Just kidding guys, no evidence they stole from bunnies. They do beat chickens to death and groom non-jewish children though.
>>5100694My schnauzer has killed many wild rabbits that would come into my backyard garden when he was young. I wouldn't trust him with my buns for the first few years. Now that he's old he doesnt care about them or realizes that they are apart of this household.
>>5104392Thanks for your story. Seems like dogs and rabbits get along well if you train the dog.

This is Walter. He will be 10 years old this spring. he was a $20 impulse buy at a feed store. We won't even impulse buy mustard. He changed everything. now he gets to live out his retirement years sleeping in front of the woodstove at a farmstead indirectly named after him. his pawprints are pressed into our porch. The Void is also in picrel. she is about a year old. she is an absolute delinquent.
Has anyon eaten rabbit? I saw a video on /ck/ with fried rabbit leg. Looked good. >>5105474It's nature settle down.
>5106054Low effort bait, although, you got my attention. (4/10)
>>5106054i am the owner of Walter, from post above you.We raise and eat rabbit. TAMUCs and Satin are our meat breeds. it is a common meat in our house, at least every 2 weeks, sometimes several times per week. it is very neutral, so it takes the flavor you add to it via spice or other ingredients. texture is somewhere between chicken and pork. I prefer it over chicken. our 2 favorite recipes are: Buffalo Rabbit & Alice Springs Rabbit. they are the backbone of our homestead both as meat, and sale.find your local "homesteading" Facebook page or whatever. someone on there is breeding and eating them. they will be more than willing to butcher at least your first few purchases for you, possibly all of them if you pay for their time. expect to pay ~$35 Freedom Units per lagomorph.
>>5106107Nice thanks for the tips. They seem like an ideal pet for farming meat. Quiet, docile, no bad smells. Cook with tallow and you avoid the rabbit starvation problem. Plus the obvious benefit they are the cutest pet.
