Omg I was just thinking about them before you posted this! They're cool as hell but seem like they would be terrifying to encounter in real life. Large eagles and hawks can be kind of scary now imagine a flying animal as tall as a giraffe with a huge head and a beak longer than your entire body. Not to mention that even if they wouldn't eat humans they could still easily kill you or severely injure you.
>>
I want to be swallowed whole by one of these fuckers

well that's gotta be a new fetish

They were not able to fly

Really? Well that's a new one. That means they're more similar to ostriches than hawks.

I know a lot of pterosaurs were the size of housecats, but there's something extra fascinating about the giant flyers. No vore shit, please.

must have been "terrifying" to be a small dino back when pterosaurs still roamed

>>5074569
If they are anything like modern birds, the skull would be a lot lighter than you think because of hollow bones.
But then wouldnt the rest of the frame be weak as well?
>>
>>5074569
The secret to giant pterosaurs flight was the quadruped launch. Birds are limited by how heavy they can be to jump with their rear legs, which are dead weight in flight, but pterosaurs can use their flight muscles to do most of the work of launching, which allows them to have far more mass dedicated to flight muscles and therefore greater overall size.
>>
>>5074761
also interesting is that it allowed them to launch themselves not just from land but also in water
>>
>>5074344
>monster hunter irl
>>
>>5074665
weak is relative, its like saying trex had weak arms when it could curl a 60lb dumbbells or something
>>
>>5074569
It also looks extremely top-heavy
Even if its bones and beak were hollow it looks like it would topple over in the front, there's no counter-weight in the back
>>
>>5075350
theyre not top heavy at all, youre being trick by thinking big=heavy, the weight is centered in their torso/shoulders

This is the kind of shit that makes dinosaur-denying retards feel vindicated.
Like, it's such a ridiculous and bizarre design that it's almost unbelievable to have existed at all. But weirdly enough it not only did exist, but it also flew, some-fucking-how
>>
>>5079378
The presentation is weird but it's not that far off from a Pelican in dimensions.
>>
>>5074569
Because there's been nothing like it since.
>>
>>5079378
Absolute kino. I'm sad I never got to see one. I hope we can create pseudo-pteros though genetic engineering that look 95% similar

I do wonder how the hell did they manage to fly with that humongous head. Dude looks unbalanced as hell, the body seems to be way too small in comparison.

Compare it to a bat or a pelican for example, they look more proportionate and balanced
>>
>>5074577
Gutslut type post
>>
>>5079757
There are also some strange stable plane designs that can fly anyway so I'm not sure if this is a good comparison.

>>5080767
An animal the size of a giraffe leaping and getting airborne is weird to imagine, yes
>>
>>5081026
Maybe they had to dive off cliffs to get a head start on flying. That would take less propulsion than taking off the ground.

Hell, maybe they didn't fly at all. They'd still be dangerous predators.
>>
>>5080767
I highly doubt that plane is nose heavy. All the engine and fuel weight is in the back.

Chad pterosaur vs the virgin whothefuckcaresosaur
>>
>>5081783
But whoever posted the image was dumb enough to name it front heavy.
Why post the image at all? It doesn't fly like a pterosaur, it doesn't have the same weight distribution. It's nothing alike.
>>
>>5081990
it clearly says "nose heavy" not "front heavy"
>>
>>5074569
To me the most convincing explanation is that the atmosphere was much denser back then.

>>
>>5082748
Okay but that bird's head is maybe 10-20% of the body's size.
The pterosaur's head is like 70-90% of it's body's size.
Not saying they are the same mass, but I dont think your example matches.
