Tamed him over the course of a little under a year and he's a sweet guy. Right before he got into a trap that was laid for a pregnant female he must have gotten FIV. Vet confirmed it and I couldn't just turn him loose again as I'd pretty much be giving him a very short, shitty life. So now he stays with me, his name is Hank. The issue is his skin is itchy as hell and he grooms massive bald spots that leak into big scabs and I can't break the cycle. Some of them are pretty much just open wounds now. He gets suspicious anytime I try to do anything for him, the little fucker knows when a trick is at hand. He knows when the Benadryl is in the squeezy treat, he knows when I have a clorhexidine wipe for his skin hidden in my hand. He seems happy, plays, gets excited for food, meows, comes to me for head touchies and does general silly shit, but he's looking physically rough and I thought it was getting better, but it got really bad again. Worse yet is giving him anything to help is nearly impossible, the more I try, the less he trusts me. I love this little retard way more than I should and it's tearing me up. I can't just keep giving the vet $700+ every 2 months, that's just not viable. Is there any hope for the guy? Is this just part of the whole AIDs baby shit? Anyone else dealt with something like this before?

My sister's cat has this same disease, which is incurable btw, you have to treat him with a specific drug and keep his kidney function monitored because it can get fucked up with the drug. He can live a happy life, probably not a long one though. You should keep him inside the house at least so he has less chances to get some other shit that kills him for good
