>Paleontology in the 80s: Dinosaurs were warm blooded, fast, large, cool, and could do stuff like balance on one leg to avoid an enemy's counter attack.
>Paleontology now: Anything that portrays feathered fat dinosaurinos as more threatening than a poodle is muh awesombro fantasy.

Too many people were whacking off to theropods so we had to make them less appealing. Sorry. Believe it or not, the feathers resulted in focus groups getting fewer erections.

t. High Councilman Longrich of the international paleontology conspiracy

Kids got into dinosaurs growing up, wanted to learn more about them, and then learned more about them. You're just a poser.

The main issue is that modern paleoart has this weird pastel, tumblr-esque sheen on it, while the older stuff is grittier looking.

In the future this might become every kid's favorite because for all we know every other dinosaur is just brown.
>>
>>5080929
If any of you seriously in 2025 fucking believe that every dinosaur was feathered you and your famikies gene pool shouldnt be allowed to vote.

T-rex has been proven to have not been feathered and many of the pop dinosaurs we all know were not feathered as for some dinos feathers were chosen against in the game of life, leaving them scaled.

Okay, that makes sense.

This retarded discourse is a 1:1 aping of fandom discourse about slop like star wars becoming "woke". Applying it to paleomedia is perfect because paleontology is a scientific field and the media around it typically changes with new evidence. It really lays bare the central grievance in all the whiny culture war media bullshit, that you want to be a baby again and you're mad that you'll never be as happy or fulfilled as you were when you were eight. In 20 years if they discovered that tyrannosaurus was actually cold blooded and scaly the whole time, there will be miserable obese FAGGOTS on this very board whining that jews took the feathers away.

We know what they looked like - It’s like this, OP.
>>
>>5080929
The problem is none of that was ever true. Most of the ideas of the dinosaur renaissance were always based on pure speculation and wishful thinking with absolutely no paleontological evidence to back them. The warm-blooded thing for example has become something of a bizarre anachronism at this point. Why anyone ever believe this about dinosaurs is pretty unclear. But there's absolutely no good evidence to back it. Every time it's been tested it's failed. Nothing in the paleontological record even mildly suggests that dinosaurs might be warm-blooded.
>>
>>5081967
In the modern age they're the same thing. Apparently you've never seen a real paleontologist in the last 20 years speak. They're absolutely retarded. They make Bob Bakker look like a genius.
>>
>>5082426
That's because its the same playbook from the same CIA agents. It's multi-spectrum enshitification to serve capitalist interests and let's be honest at this point the demiurge. They're just straight up doing devil worship.

The accuracy thing is beside the point. The real point of dinosaurs having presence in culture is its a shit test to filter out autistic and weird people. Of you have a stake in the argument, as a creationist, scale-ist, feathers, whatever, you automatically lose because there you are putting on like a science quack rather than talking about something socially relevant.
The purpose of edutainment, dinosaurs, space shuttles, bill nye, all that bugman shit is a social filter, just like sports
Really you should not care about dinosaurs, space, etc it is a social misstep. I have no idea what dinosaurs looked like and dont care to.
Paleontology is a really decadent pointless field and it would be more responsible to go into investment banking or law. I mean imagine explain to people you dig up shit for kids museums. Thats like 40 year old virign shit.
Guys, dinosaurs are bad

OP here, I think people here misunderstood what I was trying to convey. The reason I don't like modern paleoart is because how tame the dinosaurs look. I just miss the Bakker-style dinosaurs. Bakker is the best example of what I'm talking about. He always made it a point to make dinosaurs look active and dynamic. Like take the OP pic for example. It's a depiction of a T. rex rearing up and standing on one leg to dodge a prey's attack. Or his iconic running deinonychus drawing.

To put into perspectivw what I'm talking about, if they discovered deinonychus today, it's not the feathers I'd be mad about. It's about how 90% of the paleoart would depict it doing something lame and "serene" like drinking water or rolling around on its belly or something like that. More dynamic portrayals would get comments about it being an "awesomebro fantasy"

Funfact: the first "evidence" of feathers on non-avian dinosaurs came from the USSR,

almost ALL "evidence" of feathered non-avian dinosaurs come from the PRC.

>>
>>5082508
Are you posting a throwback to the 90s?
>>
>>5083364
Where it comes from is irrelevant.
Why? Because old fossils hold up under modern scrutiny.
These days we're able to investigate for pigment traces in preserved feathers and similar integument. This is something pretty new, and isn't something that you'd predict would be possible back in the past.
But, old feathered fossils from China are found to have these pigment traces in them.

So either the Chinese predicted that we'd be able to find these pigment traces decades later and painted them on with microscopic brushes, or the fossils are authentic.
