First time dog owner here:If I want to treat my dog by buying some raw chicken from the grocery store and feeding it to her, do I have to cook it or is it better to give it to her raw? If raw, should I let it sit out for a bit and become room temperature? Should I buy the kind with the bones still in them or boneless? The dog is a 1.5 year old Golden Retriever.

Poultry bones are generally considered low risk if they're still raw, but this depends entirely on how your dog eats food.Raw poultry has the risk of carrying salmonella, which wont make your dog sick if theyre a healthy adult, but their poop will start having salmonella in it. This may or may not be a non-issue for you.My advice would be to either do good quality boneless skinless chicken breast gently cooked or raw. If your dog chews their food properly raw chicken feet and raw necks are also excellent treats for dogs, and they are cheaper than breast. I give my dogs raw feet, necks, and legs on occasion with zero issue. Ive never gotten salmonella either.NO COOKED BONES EVER.
