Going to adopt him next year. He's 35 and a male but the owner doesn't know what species he is.
Side view.
>>5085123>>5085124I am 35 years old. This is highly unsettling.
>>5085124>>5085123Might be either a Hermann's or gopher tortoise got any clearly and closer pictures?
>>5085124Greek or Herman most likely. Were are you planning on keeping it?
>>5085129The only other photo I have is this one. I am limited on images as I have yet to meet him in person but I got word that he needed adoption through an elder of my church who is a neighbor to the owner.>>5085132Back yard with a hutch. It's fenced and I even have an old coal house I could convert for him. He is hibernating at the moment but apparently he will be mobile march
>>5085137Make sure the hutch is nice and secure. You don't want it getting lost or abducted by any night active predators like raccoons or large birds of prey like hawks if you have any of those around you area. Tortoises are deceivingly good escape artists too and can climb or dig out outside poorly made enclosures.
>>5085139I have heard some horror stories regarding tortoise escapes so I will make sure to go for a secure hutch. Fences are going to be redone at somepoint too so they will be more secure, what type of hutch would you recommend?
>>5085140Something like this or larger, It doesn't have to be elaborate. It depends on the size of your tortoise.
>>5085140i think most of the horror stories come from sulcatas, theyre diggers
>>5085246Virtually all tortoises dig.>>5085150That tortoise is, what, 10-12 inches long? The enclosure should be at least 4x4 feet, in that case.
Slightly off topic but what would you guys recommend for Alebras? There are some babies for sale here in the UK but adults are hard to come by. I have seen two adults for 7500 each but the babies are about 1k a piece. I would like to get an adult as while babies are manageble price wise I would prefer having a big boy within my lifetime as I am 25.
>>5085434How does one even keep these outdoors in the uk? You’d need a heated enclosure the size of a two car garage for winter
>>5085593theyre supposed brumate during the winter
>>5085593That's kinda why I was wondering if there was any advice or recommendations about keeping them. I live in an end terraced house with a moderately sized back garden that I am pretty sure it is big enough for one, maybe two to graze and eat. But obviously when it gets colder I am trying to work out logistics, would something like a big shed with a heater work?>>5085613I don't think they brumate but they do hibernate. I have heard people keep them in the garage to do it but I don't actually have one or really any other toom in the house for one to hibernate in (thus the shed idea). I have seen some people in the US use heated and insolated wooden cargo crates but I don't know where to begin with that.
>>5085434>>5085622>>5085644Can you milk them?
>>5085678Only the male ones.
>>5085123Almost certain he's is a Testudo marginata (Marginated Tortoise), better pictures would be needed too be 100% sure.
Turtlefuckers get the bullet first on day of the rope
>>5085790we said milk them not fuck them. Who wouldn't want to taste reptile milk if they could produce it?
>>5085794I would rather sit on a miniature plastic pink Dianey princess throne while 20 cyborg sandniggers take turns raping my tender anus with 3-foot-long cybernetic monster cocks than spend a single second in the company of a turtlefucker.
>>5085795you should consider transitioning from fruit to vegetable
>>5085773That actually looks pretty on point
