Last thread was deleted for some odd reason.

Last posts were about helping an Australian anon to find his lost cat. Hope she's safe, mate.
>>
both my cats like to sleep in my room and they go to bed at night together. my kitten usually sleeps on the pet mattress next to my bed and my cat sleeps on my bed or mat.
it's seriously cute how our routine is to all go to bed together, but they wake up so freaking early (5am) for breakfast which is annoying

That's me. Resposting:

I only moved in 6 days ago and she may not have developed a homing instinct yet.

The reason she was outdoors, specifically in the backyard, is because she has a physical disability that prevents her from jumping very high. She cannot jump fences, but she can crawl under tight gaps. She also has some kind of mental impairment because she never poos or urinates in the litter, always on the floor/carpet, which is why we want her outside overnight.
For the past 3 years in two different properties, I have had no problem leaving her out at night because she couldn't escape so long as all the routes are plugged. I thought I did enough in this new property, but I think she squeezed through a partially dislodged fence which I didn't think would be possibly.

I have CCTV in both my backyard and my driveway. Last sighting in the backyard was 3:47am. Zero sightings in the driveway(front). It is 11:21am where I live now and I have found no traces besides some orange hair attached to my neighbor's fence.

I have already taken what I think are most of the necessary provisions. I have stuck at least 9 flyers up. I have doorknocked most nearby houses (some have gotten annoyed by repeat doorknocks). I have left some dirty clothes out the front though I'm still not sure she can access the front. I asked my neighbor to have a look in his backyard but he didn't find anything. I have searched the backyard of someone on the other side of the block, but the old woman owner told me it's unlikely a cat will show up because her own cat chases them away. Also put flyers in all the letterboxes.

If I find her, I can guarantee you she won't be going outside ever again.

Another anon with a missing cat. This is day three of my new adopted inside cat having escaped.

I live in a pretty rural area. Last night, I saw the cat in the brush where I couldn't get to it, and I'm sure if I started trimming things to get close, it'd just run. Cat wouldn't come to me because I'm still fairly new and it's really scared.

I bought a trap and set it up tonight where I last saw the cat. Unfortunately, I have several other outside cats that I can't really catch, they're mostly wild but I still feed them. My first attempt with the trap, I caught one of the wild cats. My second attempt, I caught a raccoon. On the third and fourth attempt, I think I caught the same raccoon again since he really just buries his head on one end of the cage and tries to hide. I've given up on trapping for the night again.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go along the brush with limb trimmers and cut a path through everything to try and locate the cat again. I haven't seen where he goes during the day, and it could be that he crawls under my house, but I doubt it since that's where other wild animals are. I'm sure by this point the cat is getting really hungry and probably hasn't eaten hardly anything, so I'm thinking it'll start to bed down and hide. I need to locate and catch it before it starves.

When my cat got lost, I spared no expense finding him. I walked around my neighborhood like a crazy person and questioned every single guy I could find. I went door to door and insisted on checking their property. Eventually I found my cat in some old lady's house. Bitch saw it and thought 'free cat'. Hell no. Grandma didn't even have a cat treadmill or automated laser toy.

Schizo posting aside, if a cat bite draws blood keep an eye on it and go straight to the doctor for some antibiotics if it at all looks like it's getting infected.

adopted two cats like a year ago. i've owned a single cat before but never two.
now my question is - how fucking retarded are these things at recognizing one another long-term? i know they mainly recognize one another based on scent, but it's been nearly 2 months since one of them had to stay at the vet for two days and their dynamic has been different ever since. they used to sleep together and groom one another a lot, now they only sleep in separate rooms and avoid one another like their life depends on it. it's as if they completely reset their relationship.

Sometimes cats just attack for no clear reason, because they’re a rescue or an outdoor cat and had a traumatic memory triggered by accident.

Only adopt kittens and keep cats to your own property and they’ll stay manageable
>>
So, do cats get used to the head restraint thing? My poor cat is completely disoriented and she needs it for 2 weeks
>>
>>5086901
Cats dont really think or prefer, they are conditioned. Make the decision for your cat. Condition them to like it. To love it.
>>
>>5086602
it's called non-recognition aggression, very common story. you can only take preventative measures (rub intensively with previously scented rag before coming back from vet).
otherwise you have to reintroduce them slowly and hope they stop being retarded. reintroducing them too fast will have cascading effects when one sees the other as a threat which leads to more and more aggressive behavior.

*ting ting ting*

After 3 weeks, I believe melatonin therapy (2mg before bed each day) has permanently shifted my cats sleep schedule. I dropped him down to 1mg and then 0 and he’s still zonking out by 9 instead of making a racket all night

I would like to thank the smart cookies who posted this, and call their detractors fags and redditors

Day 5.5 of my missing cat. After not seeing him for two days, dear kitty cat has appeared again in my brushline at the end of the house. He's eaten some dry cat food I've put out for him and let me pet him, but picking him up is still out of the question. I've placed a trap out there with some food in it, which isn't ideal since he's already eaten but I figured its regular presence might get him used to it until he gets caught.

I'm just so thrilled he didn't run off too far and is getting food. I feel like it won't be long until he's back inside where he belongs.

>>5086409
I have covered almost 12 acres of a search area looking for him, I was about ready to give up hope. I thought the number of wild cats I have outside would've scared him off and without having been here for more than a couple of weeks, I didn't know if he'd pick up on the scent to find his way back.

That is the weirdest detail to remember in a cat picture
Don't get it, the kit is extremely crap
Lots of sink marks, lots of gaps to fill, a buttload of small parts attached with giant shutes to the sprue that you will inevitably lose thanks to the vague and sometimes wrong instructions, sprues with misaligned planes and an odd overabundance of parts that hold no relevance
You have 12 drive wheels, 12 idlers and 24 road wheels, but God help you if you lose one of the 2 parts needed to have the missiles pivot
The softest PE I had the displeasure of working with, the only good thing about the kit is the decal quality
It will be put on an indefinite hold and/or parts bin

My cat is incredibly vocal and loves to meow, chirp, trill, etc., but also hiss. How normal is it for cats to hiss when they're mildly annoyed at worst, and frequently at that? She even hisses every time I make up my bed when she gets on and rolls around and plays on it.

She does have a very loud, aggressive, harsh hiss that I've heard once, so I do think she knows the difference between a soft hiss and a danger hiss.

I found a breeder in my area that specifically does black cats and I'm wondering if my cat might have come from them, since I found him as a stray a few years ago. I'm almost tempted to contact them to see if the area I found him in would narrow down anyone they adopted a cat out to in the past if they keep any records like that, but it would probably just be a waste of time.

Not like I'd give him back to his original owners at this point but it'd be nice to know what his birthday is or something.

Pleural effusion is a symptom of some underlying problem, like an infection, an injury or heart diseases.
Have you checked with a vet to figure out the cause? Some can be treated. (although it might require surgery)

She's over 10 years old though and was so scared at the vet at the time that we took her home instead of leaving her there alone. My family has been thinking we have to let go.

Also sorry for dragging my dumb downer stuff into the thread.

Hell yes. Any cat that annoys a dog in my home gets put in the shower stall until they calm down. If they draw blood the water gets turned on. No doubt cats are dumb but the immediacy and fluidity with which I send them to davey jones locker seems to hit home.

I sprayed feliway on the dogs and doped the cats up with valerian-nip mix early on for good measure.

Got a kitten who was about 4 weeks old from a coworkers backyard, who is now about 12 or so weeks, nursed him back to health. Keeps climbing my leg and biting my neck/face. Playing with him at least 4-5 sessions a day that are 10 min-30 min in length at a time, have tunnels/cat tree toys in the house. I try to either feed or reward him after long periods of play. He goes through bouts where he insistently bites the dog and everyone in the house, what do? As of now I am picking him up and removing him, sometimes from the room entirely. The kitten’s mom is not around, and he’s tested positive for fiv antibodies so another kitten is not an option.

I have a cat bed that I bought when I first adopted my cat. He's pretty much never really used it, maybe once or twice but then never again afterwards. I never thought much of it, I just assumed he didn't care for it, until yesterday when I realized something rather unusual.

He isnt just uninterested, rather he is actively avoiding it. Idk if he's scared of it or what. It's not like he actively sprints away from it or acts terrified or anything that extreme, but he outright refuses to stand on it.

I put it up on a shelf next to the window, thinking he might like to have it as a comfy spot to lay or sit while he's looking outside, and I noticed him sitting on the very edge of the shelf to avoid touching the bed. It took up most of the space on the shelf so it was a very conscious decision he was making to sit in an awkward position just to avoid the cat bed.

When he was crossing to the other side of the shelf, he moved very cautiously to step over the bed, flinching back every time his foot accidentally touched the bed and then he sort of leaped across to the other side, making sure that his paws never touched the bed. I'm not sure if the way I'm describing this makes much sense, but basically he was very deliberately and with extra difficulty leaping over and across the shelf just to make sure his paws didn't touch the bed.

I began testing this out in various ways and sure enough, consistently he went out of his way to not touch the cat bed. Whenever it's in his path, despite the simplest way to get somewhere being to just walk over the bed, he will go around to avoid it. He absolutely refuses to let his paws touch it.

I tried putting his favorite treats directly onto the cushion to coax him, and he acted extremely cautiously, sniffed the edges, and stretched over to snatch the treat out with his mouth. But he made sure not to let his paws touch.

Anyone have any ideas of why? What could explain this behavior? Pic related
>>
>>5089717
And here's another picture from a long time ago of him laying on the exact same bed. So it's not like he's unfamiliar with it or anything. This was like 6 or 7 months ago, and from what I remember was one of the last times I saw him using it.

Actually there's a more general trend to his behavior I've noticed which is that he seems to dislike soft surfaces. He will get on human beds/mattresses but only rarely, and only for very limited amounts of time. He's slept on my bed in the past but only rarely and not at all in the last 6 months or so. If someone is laying on their bed he might jump up there for a few moments to get closer to them but he won't stay for very long. Same with couches. It's very hard to convince him to get on the couch cushions and the rare occasions I succeed he will always jump back down very quickly. Pillows are the same, etc. Same with blankets. He spends 99% of his time on hard surfaces and mostly refuses to stand, sit, or lay on soft ones unless he has something compelling him. Even then he will usually only tolerate it for a brief time. I guess it might be something with him disliking the feeling under his paws? But it's weird since I thought most cats enjoy laying on comfy things, but he seems to actively hate that. I've lived 3 places with him and each of them had carpeted and hardwood floors in different parts of the house. He always tends to hang out on the hardwood floors. He sleeps on the hardwood floors.

Also one other quirk is he really really loves plastic bags. If I put a plastic trash bag or a plastic shopping bag on the ground he loves to lay on those. He loves them so much that if he sees me put one down he will run over to lay on it.

He was taken off the streets before being put in a shelter so maybe that's why?

Need some advice. Got 5 cats and currently my girlfriend'd cat is with us (it's a big house) for a few weeks. We did all the shit with the scent swapping and isolation and having them see each other through the door etc. and shit actually worked.

The only exception now is if I'm chilling in bed or on the couch. New cat thinks that at that time I'm her property. She will lay on me and pounce on any other cat that comes even remotely close. As soon as I get up, she's back to being chill with everyone. I got no idea how to even begin solving this issue.

I like cats. But why do cat people misinterpret cats so fucking much?
The more I read, the more advice I see on cats to be utter fucking anthropomorphic bullshit.
Stuff like having more than one cat being somehow more ethical (fair enough for kittens but that's mainly for human benefit later), allogrooming = affection, normalization of colonies.
Their thinking is very alien and not easy to put into human terms. But that's all that I see to an absurd level.

My kot went to the vet today - again. He has a lot of wax build up all the time but sometimes it gets so bad it needs the vets to clean it out (he'll give himself a sore from scratching).

The vet says its natural and I should clean his visibleear with some loose cotton in a ball between 1-2 times a week which I do.

Has any one had this issue before? He also sheds a ton (no baldness) and I have to clip his nails once a month or he'll fuck himself up even more.

I can give him these neck drops and vitamin paste for the shedding but that only works for about a month and its expensivr.

He's 6 and fixed. Indoor cat.

I think its good to get 2 so they can play with eachother
IMO a domesticated indoor cat is happiest when it plays a LOT. Same is true of dogs. Its unfeasible for a cat owner to keep a cat from getting bored. And it’s unethical to keep it in a house, where it cannot take care of itself, without taking the best care of it you can. I see a lot of people with old cats that they don't play with and i just think, that cat looks like it has major depression.

Walked in the bathroom, looked at the litter box and noticed a cat turd sitting on top that looked weird. Stark white. Picked it up to see what looked like a giant pill capsule enrobed in shit. Went and looked at their cat toys. The end of the cat want was missing. The little fucker ate the rubber end of the wand. Thankfully it's a soft, rounded cylindrical shape. Feel like we both dodged a bullet there. Thank God it didn't go bad. I'm inspecting all of their toys.

This one is funny because of the reverse implications.

Dogs think grooming is submission. Cats think grooming is dominance.

In other words the dog has to submit to the cat for the cat to submit to the dog.

dogs dont think grooming is submission. its totally neutral to them like small talk and compliments. petting is grooming and they still listen to people. they’re kind of like monkeys. everyone scratches everyones back.

i also doubt cats think its anything because they’re barely social and only barely because of domestication arresting them in a juvenile state. if it appears dominant its because theyre confused, aggressive, and kinda dumb.

Trying to get my cat to adjust to our new place. Unfortunately my older brother also lives here. It's been 6 days and everytime I make any progress something happens to completely undermine it all and spook him again. He initially wouldn't come out of the corner of the closet in my bedroom. I managed to get him feeling confident enough to walk around the rest of the house in under a week. I left this afternoon and when I return 5 hours later my brother has his loud 4th grade daughter and a large dog he's dogsitting both here and the bedroom door is wide open. I wanted him to at least feel comfortable, confident, and safe in my bedroom even if I can't control the rest of the house. I'm pretty sure they were walking into the room and disturbing him while I was gone, because now once again he is in the corner in my closet and refusing to leave. Everytime i manage to coax him out of the closet a bit, he looks over at the bedroom door in fear then backs up again. Probably now he doesn't feel secure even in the bedroom because they've shown him that they might barge in at any moment with no warning. And so he sticks to the furthest darkest corner in the closet. So frustrating. Unfortunately no matter how much I care about my cats wellbeing, I can't force or make the people I live with care about that and I can't be here 24/7 to keep an eye on things. Kinda miss having my own place...

I just moved recently and my cat developed a hotspot. The reason doesn't really matter, since I took him to the vet and got him the works, shot and everything, and now its just a waiting game for his neck irritation to heal.

Its not like he has any surgical injuries that make his mouth a danger to the rest of his body. I just need him not to scratch at his neck. Is there a product I can use as an alternative to elizabeth cones? Maybe a special scarf or shirt? He's absolutely miserable and spends all day skulking.

For the last couple weeks I noticed my cat needs several attempts to put her right paw down when sitting, like she's tapping the floor. See pic rel. Keep in mind this particular picture its somewhat more pronounced, her paw usually doesn't point outwards like that but there's absolutely a difference in the way her "hand" joint is bent when seated. Her demeanor, gait, appetite and overall habits are not changed though. She's also constantly jumping up and down furniture so I have no idea if she's in pain. I tried feeling if the joint is hot and it doesn't seem like it is but its very hard to do since she absolutely doesn't like having any of her limbs touched. She's 15 years old. Should I take her to the vet? I don't want her to suffer through the stress of anesthesia and having to stay in an unfamiliar place if not absolutely necessary. Could it be agitation/inflammation from regular jumping? I'm not sure if I'm making things up in my head but she does seem to be favoring spot from where she has to jump down as of late.
>>
>>5091368
One thing I forgot; when she was much younger, say between 2 to 4 years, I don't really remember, my mom accidentally stepped on one of her paws and she did have a limp for about a week. Unfortunately I don't remember which paw it was but I have the sinking feeling it could be relevant. I'd greatly appreciate any advice, thank you.

thanks for the help guys, she's very old and I've learned she most likely has incurably failing kidneys

My cat started vomiting everywhere a few hours ago, vet doesn't open for another seven hours, is there anything I can really do until then? Indoor cat so he can't have been poisoned at least.

My cat ate half a dryer sheet and almost died.

Unironically feed it cheese. My vet told my dad to do that when his cat got poisoned. I don't know how it works but apparently it does. I hope your cat is ok.

Thanks anon, he's at the vet under observation now. Thankfully I got insurance after his last incident.

My cat snuck outside yesterday. There's a whole colony of strays that live in the surrounding fields, I feed them pretty regularly. I'm wondering how would they typically react to a new stranger cat? I saw him sneaking around out there but he refuses to come back inside and whenever I try to call to him or he sees me he runs and hides in bushes or whatever so I just left it alone. I'm curious if the other cats would be cool with him or would they treat him as an invader to their territory? There's like 9 or 10 of them at least, I noticed he isn't seemingly interacting with them but rather snooping around on the other side of the house away from them. I worry about him getting bullied or attacked out there, he's a neutered 1.5yr old male.
