The problem is that they're TOO successful. In the case of St Matthew Island in the Bering sea, a couple red foxes arrived on icebergs, and within just 15 years they totally outbred the native Arctic foxes, replacing them. There's now no arctic foxes on St Matthew island anymore
https://www.nps.gov/articles/aps-v14-i1-c5.htm

I'm all for foxes eating and replacing non-foxes (such as in Australia and all its stupid-looking wildlife), but replacing FELLOW FOXES is uncool.

Also, going to either illegally is loser behaviour,
You will just be able to experience foxs all over hokkaido. They will just come up to you when you offer food. It is substantially less illegal to be out at night trying to feed famichiki to foxs.

I am annoyed with the hours of either one, the foxs are much less active during most of the day. At kitakitsune, they feed in the evening, so the best strategy is to go a bit before close and try to stay as long as you can get away with. You they didn't seem to mind a few minutes over and all the fox were starting to pile up near the entrance or run around

Two males. I remember when VulpesPerson posted it on his Twitter. He posted a similar vid with two females. The book mentions such activity happens during mating season. They just need relief. Not even foxes can tell who's male or female by sight. They sniff to check their mate's sex afterwards.
>>
But also interesting that the bottom male appears to be flagging his tail a bit to facilitate the top male's goal.

That's pretty cool from Cypriot government part ! There is a lot of trouble to wildlife in Mediterranean like shooting to migratory birds so its good they try to popularize positive fox image

That being said even they say foxes there didn't came on their own and were brought thousands of years ago by ancient farmers. Of course today they are keystone species and fully nativized just like dingoes in Australia but their origins there still lie with humans

Things were much different for foxes before chickens were invented. (Sources say domestic chickens in Europe by 800BC. I wonder what foxes' reputation was like before then.)

There's the real thing, and then there's just uwu drawings. Detailed closeups of their mouths are in between the two. But no one here seems to be into detailed closeup photos of foxes' big juicy yawning maws (no missing teeth, path to the esophagus visible, whiskers flared) so we're safe.

In short:
>want to be very close to foxs where you can reach out and touch them close for taking close pictures
Fox village
>want to see foxs from a distance and without a ton of people crowding around with bad manners
Kitakitsune

Like at kitakitsune the foxs are a bit more wild and keep their distance or sneak around you. There are much less of them in one spot so it can be harder to get photos without a zoom lens, you will want something like 70mm minimum
The foxs also seem better maintained, few have damage
But there is no fox holding and it's giga-ass to get to. It's also half the cost of entry
When I was there it seemed like they had tour bus after tour bus every 30 minutes the entire day, but the tour groups were only there for 15min at a time and did not misbehave the foxs.

Fox village has significantly more tourists and is annoying as hell, they mistreat or scare the fox. There are way more foxs and much more paths to allow you to get closer to fox and take better pictures. People say it is overcrowded but I don't think so, they have a ton of space, but they crowd around in some key places because of where they get fed.
You can hold the fox at 11 and 1400, I usually line up 20-30min before for that. About 3 foxs in the large pen allow you to touch them too if you want to break some rules, the feeding of the fox opens at 930 so you can buy a food bag and keep 1-2 food in your pocket when done. 1-2 foxs will be friendly ones that will come to you and climb on your leg. Just be careful because the staff don't like it

Both I recommend getting there at exactly opening time, at least for winter. The foxs are only active for like 15min after opening and then they all mostly sleep the rest of the day. Kitakitsune they go active around closing because they are fed after.
For foxvil you can take shinkansen up and then just take cab there for ¥5350 to be there at before 9, then they have a bus back at like 1230 or something.
Kitakitsune we rented a car.

So it's not even the owners mistreating the foxxos, it's literally the gaijin and people who complain and are making shit up about animal cruelty and post on youtube with titles such as DO NOT GO TO FOX VILLAGE and THE HORRIBLE TRUTH OF OF ZAO FOX VILLAGE who are mistreating the foxxos
>>

>>
>>5091479
Idk, a lot of the foxs are all torn up. But I think people just assume oh it happened there or something, I'm pretty sure they take in damaged foxs from all over and just keep them if the injuries are incompatible with release.
There's a lot of fighting though, but that is just foxs, they do a lot of play fighting. It rarely gets heated.

I fully support all youtubers telling foreigners not to go.

>>5091602
Yes I keep forgetting to dump photos every year too. I should go more often but it it costs a lot to take shinkansen and I don't have time for more than a day trip

Im goin to zao next month (will post pics) as a daytrip from tokyo, anything worth seeing or doing in shiroshi after? Atm my vague plan is ride the train up in the morning, see the foxes then probably just go up to sendai, have dinner (gyutan) and then train back to tokyo

On the other hand if theres more cool shit at the fox village city, or southwards back on the way to tokyo, might check that out
>>
>>5091768
>anything worth seeing or doing in shiroshi
Nope. Just go to sendai, much more to do there.
Unless you want to grab a nearby ryokan, they are good
>>
>>5091946
Yeah figured it might be like that. Spent a week in sendai a few years ago, know the shopping arcade and stuff near the main station, reckon it's a good way to end the night before catching a train back since fox village will be taking me most of the way there

No ryokan, already booked all hotels etc... also if there's literally nothing to do there, not much point in overnighting
>>
Is there any point in visiting Fox Village two days in a row if you just really like the place?
>>
>>5092108
I mean... go for it if you want, but i think the point is that theres nothing nearby, if i dead set on spending multiple full days in fox village id just like.... stay in sendai, go to fox village from open to close, and then go back to sendai wheres theres amenities and nightlife etc... until i go back to fox village again the next morning

Fukushima's approximately the same distance from fox village as sendai, never got off on that stop, probably more going on there than in shiroshi if you dont wanna stay in sendai
>>

Well, the Inari complex(Fushimi Inari-taisha) is unique and beautiful, no real foxes I saw but lots of statue foxes. The hike up the trail to the top is beautiful.....it's nowhere near where you specified though...
>>
>>5092108
I think it would be a little bit overkill, they are open for like 10 hours and have two cuddling sessions and if it isn't slammed you can just get back in line and get two in per session.
You will most definitely be satisfied with one day, I'm not sure you would enjoy two.
Just be absolutely sure to get there right when they open and if you're up for it, stay till close. The foxs are most active just after opening and just before closing in winter, and I'm pretty sure in all other seasons they are very eepy the whole time. Fox are nocturnal
