Why are there so many iguanas in Florida? People are literally making blankets out of living iguanas.
>>5098190Florida is a paradise for reptiles, Iguanas are certainly not going away in that state unless serious hunting measures is rallied against them.
>>5098190wholesome chungus iguanarino oops it's too much work and the shelter won't take it outside it goes
>>5098233>oops it's too much workhow lazy do you have to be for an iguana to be too much work? They're easier pets than a cat or dog.
I went to Miami Zoo and saw more lizards on the paths than actual animals in enclosures
>>5098254I went to florida once, there are definitely a shitload of lizards there
>>5098190introduced species+adequate climate
>>5098190apparently the cold snap is wrecking these poor bastards.
>>5098190I hope those lizards don't go to waste. They're good eating.
>>5098235nigga do you know what goes into taking care of onet. owner of a 21 year old turtle
>>5098235Keeping an green iguana (especially males) is like having a perpetually stubborn cat with pure tard rage. They do not make good pets.
>>5098340Just stunting them. They will wake up. They did a no permit exception for everyone because it's such a grab bag of these little shit fuckers.
>>5098190>iguanas bad even doe florida is a stone's throw from their native range and they are documented raft colonizer>iguanas bad even doe florida has fossil evidence of large lizards from recent preglacial times>iguanas bad because they eat sea turtle and bird eggs even doe they coexist with all these species in their native range>iguanas bad because they destroy the environment (digging in my muh suburban flower garden)
>>5098446I have yet to see any significant negative effects iguanas have on the ecosystem. Cats and feral hogs do more damage to native life than iguanas 10 fold and unlike iguanas which are herbivores, cats and hogs actually seek out bird and turtle nests to predate on.
>>5098190those are mostly fake iguanas
>>5098254>>5098282But enough about the politicians!
>>5098446We got the shitty iguanas. Everyone would love Iguana delicatissima or any of the Cyclura.
>>5098446>iguanas good cus they're tasty actually
>>5098480>>5098475>>5098341What is up with southerners and eating reptiles? I always hear them throwing alligators, iguanas and turtles into deep fryers or soup pots. Do they really taste that good?
>>5098483>turtlesTurtle soup is a lesser-known traditional dish of Philadelphia. Used to be sold in friggin cans at supermarkets in the area, that's how ubiquitous it was. But when the city got inundated with out-of-towners, turtle soup steadily began to disappear from diner menus and grocery shelves and now, it's practically impossible to get the Philly style soup in the area. All you can get is Chinese turtle soup, which doesn't scratch the same itch. Anyway, imagine something the texture of chicken but flavor of shrimp or seafood and that's what you're dealing with when it comes to gator and turtle. I imagine iguana wouldn't taste quite like that.
>>5098483they also eat the invasive pythons too.
>>5098483can't speak for iguana because I'm from georgia but turtle is really nice, inbetween idk shrimp and chicken. Gator is almost like beef but with a bit of that bottom-feeder taste you get from catfish or crawfish that makes some people like it and some dislike it. Frogs are almost a 1 to 1 ringer for chicken, just a bit more, idk, delicate? I guess cus they have less fat, maybe. If I ever take a trip to florida I intend to try iguana and lionfish just because they're getting good at making them.remember also that we eat plenty of other cuddly/cute/cool animals too, pigs, cows, chickens, turkeys, they're all people's pets as well in a vacuum, broadening what kinds of foods you find appealing is part of appreciating a culture.
>>5098517>Frogs are almost a 1 to 1 ringer for chickenThe only people who say this have never actually had frog. It does not taste like chicken. Like⦠at all. It tastes like chicken the same way chocolate tastes like licorice IE not even remotely. What it does taste like, however, is tuna. Texture of chicken. Taste of tuna. The legs look like chicken wings. That's likely where the idea that they taste like chicken (when they very much don't) came from.
>>5098591Maybe it was the way I had it cooked but they just tasted like chicken to meI'll just eat some again soon and see for myself.
>>5098190I live Central FL and I was surprised when I went to South FL for the first time and saw the iguanas. They just are only in the South. Lots of small lizards in Central FL but I was shocked to just see iguanas walking everywhere in the South. The Keys also just have wild chickens walking everywhere.
>>5098235Reptiles tend to be harder to properly care for then mammals, especially cats and dogs.
>>5098483I never had much, but I never liked turtle meat.
>>5098483history of poverty + climate condusive to reptiles growing large and fat and therefore having a lot of meat. alligators have more meat on them than a deer does typically, and they're much easier to hunt.
>>5098459I didn't know that China produces bootleg animals also
>>5098480i hear they barbecue them down in tiajuana
>>5100903nobody barbecues in tijuana lol, they just think it means grilling, or putting it in a pot
>>5100903>>5100921"I wish I was in Tijuana, Eating barbequed iguana ..."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyCEexG9xjw
>>5100925Totally didn't get the reference lmao my bad
