Let's talk about geese, not just Canada's.

Post goose pictures.
Tell goose stories.
What's your favorite goose species?

I guess this one just because I'm not familiar with any other goose. But I'm reluctant to call it my favorite because wherever you see these, you also see goose crap everywhere.

I think those are Barnacle geese? You live in the Baltics or Scandinavia?

>goose stories

Ok. I’ll greentext for easier reading.
>Rewiring like 30 houseboats with new cable
>the ebb and flow of the tide causes the houseboats to rise and fall, so naturally, cable connections need to have slack / drip loops to prevent them from ripping off the docks and houses
>HOA manager or whoever he is giving us the tour on the first day. He’s holding what looks like a spear with a taser on the end instead of a blade
>”Hey my guy? What’s that for?”
>”It’s nesting season.”
>As we go down the docks, we are assaulted by horny, angry geese
>Guy explains that they are competing for the best nesting spots, which the geese figure are on the docks in community planter boxes
>he zaps like 5 geese that morning
>one of the males lands in the water next to another male
>fight ensues, feathers fly
>the repeats for several days while we work
>part of the work requires us to be in the water, using kayaks that were provided for us
>had to fend off geese with my paddle while maneuvering around

Fucking Canada and their fucking geese

Yes. That picture was taken in capital of Finland, Helsinki. In every park there's always a lot of them walking around. I wonder if it's the same for cities of Canada?

Here's another picture with the little baby geese.

I have a bay goose hatching upstairs as we speak. There was a bit of blood(?) or red stuff that came out when the hole was popped and I’m scared. As of right now it’s chirping and squirming in the egg, but.
What do?

Just removed a dead egg from the incubator and cracked it open, turned out there was an embryo in there.

The goose is loose and healthy. Long story short no they’re just my pets and I just hatched it for the hell of it because this is the first time my goose laid eggs. I got this incubator initially because most of my flock of ducks got wiped out by predators so I got the incubator and took every egg I had in the fridge, probably 20-30 of them and one hatched, it was a male and I had one female left and I have their offspring cooking now (the male duck is the female’s nephew but whatever). I got the geese to protect the ducks and they’ve done a great job keeping predators at bay.

Yes it's the same here. Geese in every park, they take over beaches. Shit everywhere, hiss and peck at anyone who gets too close.

Very cool. What did you name him?

Something to be mindful of- don't let the little fella swim/wade too much in water too early. Babies don't quite waterproof themselves for the first week, in nature they'd be getting some of the waterproofing from close contact with mama goose.

Also, are you gonna get him friends or raise him solo? I know it's right about chick season at the feed stores.

>don’t let him swim too early
I already did but good to know. I dried him and fluffed him back up myself.
>gonna get him friends
He had a sibling that didn’t make it past the embryonic stage and croaked, and there’s a duck egg in the incubator as we speak, but if it makes it to hatch and doesn’t die, that won’t be for a couple of weeks and I’d fear the goose would be mean to the tiny baby as the goose will be huge by then. I would keep them separate for awhile until I’m sure the duck is big enough to be able to withstand a bite from that goose and not get one-shotted. I actually have like 8 goose eggs right now I can put into the incubator, but
>put two goose eggs in the incubator
>they’re alive
>days go by
>candle eggs, black inside, can’t see anything
>when I exhumed the eggs from the nest they were frozen solid blocks because it was literally 2 degrees out for the last month
>I assume they’re dead
>leave them in the incubator anyway
>duck lays egg
>put duck egg in
>you have to crank the humidity when hatch day draws near
>I never did
>hatch day
>I go to throw out the eggs and I hear a fucking baby inside one of them
>crank humidity
>duck egg needs to be at 40-50, but now humidity is 75%
>but I don’t want to lose this goose I didn’t know was there
>now I think I fucked with the duck incubation and idk if it will hatch
>don’t want to add goose eggs yet and fuck up their incubation by cranking it when the duck is close to hatching
I basically need a second incubator to transfer hatch-day eggs over to I’m realizing. I’ll probably pop the goose eggs in there today anyway, fuck it. I’m just happy about this baby goose. All these eggs I have were frozen solid blocks too so idk how any of them are alive or hatching.

>cables need slack so they don't rip off the houses
>we needed to be in the water in kayaks
Reminder for anons to NEVER swim in a boat dock area. Easy way to get electrocuted by 120-240v power.

Birds in general are amazingly various where I live. I've had hummingbirds hovering inches from my face even as Canada geese swept overhead. I suppose my favorite species is the Great Horned Owl. Blessed be anyone who hears one hooting from the roof at night.

Let my dogs out at 2am this morning and saw an owl fly off from a nearby tree into the night. I think it was a barred owl.
