This was blatant british propaganda, much like what the chinks do with their made up avian dino of the month. BBC wanted to show the world that GLORIOUS BRITANNIA, RULER OF THE WAVES used to have the biggest predator of the world in its waters.
I frankly believe such a beast existed, but it sure wasn't liopleurodon and neither lived in the shallow waters of northern tethys in the late jurassic.

Do you have a better explanation for why this animal was so grossly misrepresented in size and behaviour? We're not talking about a few meters shorter, Liopleurodon was 5 times smaller than the BBC show counterpart. That's magdeburg unicorn levels of incompetence.
