Thinking about all the animals that have been rendered extinct in the last 200 years from purposeful human action, or population numbers thoroughly decimated to a point that they are never going to recover
Think about all the species that haven't despite our best efforts.
I find it more upsetting to think about the thousands of species that disappeared, without us ever knowing anything about them. Only a very small fraction of creatures fossilise.
