Can someone suggest a simple, private camera I can put in my yard to observe all the different animals that visit me when I'm not looking?
I've seen evidence of a ton of them and personally seen raccoons, deer, possums, and owls. Would love some night vision shots

well there are plenty of trail cams available, and you could alternatively spring for some security cams. Both use IR to see in night vision (if you get the appropriate models).

if you want specific recommendations I have a Spypoint Flex M trailcam near my hunting blind and it's been great. Good battery life, hasn't budged from the tree, good quality pics and range and all the pics come directly to my phone several times a day. That said I am paying a monthly fee because it needs it's own cell plan but it's not much.

Ring cameras are actually not bad, there are spotlight ones (you can disable the light so as not to startle critters) and they take 2 batteries that are rechargeable. You can even set it up with solar, and being able to see the critters on a timeline is cool. Subscription tho so that kinda sucks but is worth it for the little critters
