Have you ever been sprayed by a skunk?
>>5105949My dog has. Dog was on his scent, turned the corner of a building at night, skunk was really close and dog lunged. I saw the skunk and pulled my dog away quickly, but it was not quick enough. If you wash in a mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and soap within 45 minutes of getting sprayed the scent can be removed completely. The actual skunk spray is a lot different smelling than when you smell a skunk that got hit by a car or from a difference. It smells like stinky ass garlic, burnt rubber, and that weird old bandaid smell.
>>5105952I've never heard old bandaid as a comparison, interesting.
>>5105949i shot a skunk in my chicken coop once, hit it in the stomach and it sprayed all over me. smelled like burnt silly string and burnt hair.
worked on a farm for a while and they had a skunk in the garden, farmer caught it and wanted to show us how he releases skunks. he released it out of a cage with a blanket on top, it was already quite a distance away from us when max the boarder collie caught up to it.they washed him with tomato sauce if i remember correctly, he smelled horrible for about a month. at the time it was astounding to me that a animal can reek this much like chemicals. its unnatural. not unbearable but weirdly unnatural.
They are dumb as shit too. Doing a full on spray wipes them out and they have to eat after. They can only shoot a couple of times in a week too. Instead of spraying legitimate threats, they shoot anything that gets close to it. Then the next animal eats them. Coyotes est them all the time. They also walk fearlessly around at night and owls jack them left and right. The white strip glows at night.
>>5106578>not unbearable but weirdly unnaturalIt's not supposed to be gross, just an unmistakeable smell that makes the target sensible to prey
>>5106579My dads old dog learned how to kill skunks without getting sprayed once.>chase skunk under bush>fake-lunge, skunk raises tail to spray>dog dives to the side>repeat 2-3 times until skunk fires a blank>dead skunkAs a complete aside, I found a kind of antimicrobial packet at my work once smelled weirdly like skunk spray. Not the worst of the awful smell, but it had that exact same chemical signature.
>>5105952I’ve heard tomato juice, or maybe it was sauce, can get rid of it.
>>5107474>tomato juiceThat's a myth, it doesn't help and i'm surprised it's still being perpetuated to this day. The actual solution is to mix 3% hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and a little dish soap
>>5106579>Doing a full on spray wipes them out and they have to eat afterI've heard they only do it as an absolute last resort, and this would seem like a reason why, but as you said>Instead of spraying legitimate threats, they shoot anything that gets close to it.
>>5105949Yeah and i sprayed it back
>>5105949I wonder if the smell that I always thought was weed is actually a skunk. A dead one, or just a scent of one that has sprayed. Like I could be going down a freeway at freeway speed and suddenly it starts to reek inside the car. Always assumed there must have been a diversitymobile with a future engineer smoking a fat blunt somewhere ahead of me. But maybe that's not the case? On the other hand, I didn't think I've ever seen a skunk roadkill around here (California). Mostly coons and an occasional possum, multiple times a week, but never a skunk, at least in recognizable form.
skunks are based and adorable
>>5107779its called skunk weed for a reason. smells go away when diluted with the air, if you keep smelling something that means that its being constantly reapplied, so unless you have a mountain of skunk corpses on the road in one of the most ecological disasters to exist in the mokst ecologically friendly state, no, people are getting high
>>5107552You also need to make sure to wash the spray off within 45 minutes or it dries/bonds with the fur and won't wash out.
>>5105949No, but my dog has.

>>510955712-guage with BB shot works fine so far for me. I live on a farm.
>>5109436maybe it's a r/meth vs. r/methwithoutfascism scenario
>>5105949Yes unfortunately. Then the skunk did a moon walk and said "you've been hit by...you've been stuck by...a smooth criminal".
>>5105949No but one power bottomed me and we had a night of butt loving.
>>5108883>our mutt loved to escape the house>could disappear for hours and come back>comes back stinking like skunk>her face when
No but my brother has a hilarious story. >Grow up out in the country>Brother is like 13-14 and alone at house with mom & dad>Bro hears scratching at door, assumes it's one of the dogs and goes and opens it without looking >Skunk is halfway into house before bro realizes it's not the dog>Bro tries to slam door closed, just ends up closing it on skunk who is halfway in & halfway out>Skunk is trapped and pissed, bro is screaming for help>Dad comes running up from basement >Dad grabs hammer & starts beating skunk to death with it before it gets all the way into house>Skunk sprays all over in the front entry before finally dying>Bro & parents get rabies shots & a week home from school & work because EVERYTHING stinks, house smells for over a month
>>5110330Poor animaldid nothing wronggot beaten to death with a hammerthis is an awful, horrible story
>>5105949how do I acquire the odorous chemical prowess of a skunk? asking for a friend
>>5106578Reminder 99% of our medicines and invented chemicals come from nature and are isolated, not synthesized.
>>5105949No i wish.
>be me >walking home late one night>take shortcut through alleyway>a wild skunk appears >motherfucker jumped out from behind a trash can> we both freeze for a couple seconds>skunk hisses does these adorable little hops that I think are meant to scare me>I get ready to run as the skunk starts to turn>I bolt before the spray but look back to see it chasing me>follows me at least fifty or so feet down the alley
I genuinely like the smell of skunk spray, although I've never smelled a direct hit
