Uh I was reading the schizo meltdown and now I have a question:I never really "trained" the two dogs I had, but since I got them as puppies I was instructed to grip their necks (not the scruff, the neck) with a bit of strength (always relaxing a bit if they whimpered but not until then), push them downwards and make a "shhh" sound until they stopped whatever they were doing. After they grew older I could just make a loud "shhh" and they'd stop whatever shit they were doing at the time and lower their posture. It's also worth noting that I didn't have to actually grip their necks ever again, even when I'm touching their food while they eat.Is this a bad way to educate a dog? What should I be doing instead? I'll probably get a pup next year and now I'm a bit unsure if I was just traumatizing the dogs instead of teaching them.Another thing of note is that since I was the only one doing the neck thing in my family the dogs ended up obeying only me, which kinda sucked (things like them trying to steal food from my siblings, when even if i laid a treat on the floor they wouldnt eat until i picked it back up and presented it near their mouths).

I have a french bulldog. Not because I bought him but he was out wandering one day and he was panting heavily. So I took him back to my home. I posted online for others to see if they lost a dog. No response. So I took him in. Now he is eating home-cooked meals and chilling most of the day. Not an active dog but that's okay he gets his little walk in during the morning or evening when it's cool. Plus, he likes to sleep under my arm dude is so chill, very cool dog, I love him.
