i don't understand, it makes perfect sense for sauropods to have been amphibious. all the mental gymnastics that paleontologists make to justify their gigantic bulk, how their bones could support their bodies, how the blood could be pumped up their heads, and how they managed to constantly eat could be explained by the simple fact that they lived neck deep into water.
so where's the proof that they were exclusively earthbound canopy grazers? this isn't just a "gotcha" stunt by younger researchers instantly labeling old theories as antediluvian crap, right?

most were not canopy grazers, most were eating things off the ground

A few reasons, from simplest to most complex:
>We find their fossils outside of swampy paleoenvironments
>mechanically, becoming mired in muck is much more dangerous the heavier you are
>nutritionally, lake and swamp weeds are unlikely to supply enough calories, even hippos and moose graze on land very frequently as well because swamp plants aren’t rich enough fodder
>Isotopically, we know they are land plants.
>Historically, the ideas that they were lake bound swamp grazers or that they required deep water to fuck we’re invented as an explanation for great size in excess of calculated bone strengths by people who were less good at math than modern paleontologists doing the same calculations.

It is an iconic look though. Whenever I use dinosaur continents in DnD games as a DM, there are sauropods grazing lake weed in swampy ponds. It’s just cool that way.
>>
> are land plants
Ate land plants, mea culpa
>>

Some of them, like Cetiosaurids and Apatosaurines probably were. Although I guess I have to be careful what I say on this board from now on cause every time I say something some fucking dumb asshole just parrots what I say to make a jewtube video or writes a paper and then doesn't credit anyone for it. I don't mind not being credited, but stop pretending you assholes are coming up with these ideas when you're clearly not. Fucking kikes.

horsetails or cattails were a big part of why they got really big and those were water plants

who are you, the reincarnation of edward drinker cope? this is an anonymous imageboard, retard, if you think what you say here is worth more than the pixels used to write it then go make a blog or something.

Their skeletal anatomy doesn't reflect that life style

Do your own research, homo.

He’s a narcissist and an autist. What did you expect

>>5108961
Stop being a lazy, incompetent bitch and do your own research. And no, I don't mean making up bullshit wild ass "theories" (stories) you think are going to snag headlines in tabloids. I mean actual fucking research.
>>
>>5108962
>do your own research
Why? I don’t have a question I need answered, and if I did there’s no fucking chance I’d ask your retarded schizophrenic ass
>>
>>5108965
You dumb cum stains aren't answering any questions. You're just keeping your careers afloat. And that's the problem, you don't ask, you just take. You don't do any real work, you steal from those smarter than you and then deny all culpability.

Wtf are you talking about. Wetlands and swamps are the most productive systems because of all the nutrients and energy constantly moving around. Duckweed is one of the most nutritional plants on the planet.
>>
if they were water bound, they would have eventually evolved fins instead of legs and shrunk in size etc. which is what has happened to some other dinosaurs. these guys clearly remained land animals.
>>
>>5109002
elephants have all those too but you don't see them living in the ocean
>>
>>5109145
Nobody's saying sauropods were aquatic or even ocean goers. But since you've talked about elephants, they pass a great deal of time in the water, when they can, and are adept swimmers.

>We find their fossils outside of swampy paleoenvironments
that doesn't mean anything, the corpses can be washed away by floods or realigned by the movement of the strata
>mechanically, becoming mired in muck is much more dangerous the heavier you are
yeah but when you have lungs that make you completely buoyant that's a non issue.
>nutritionally, lake and swamp weeds are unlikely to supply enough calories, even hippos and moose graze on land very frequently as well because swamp plants aren’t rich enough fodder
that's false since swamps are the bedrock over which forests grow. if they weren't nutritious the dead biomass wouldn't make such a good humus for the tall trees that would make up the vegetation once the water drains out
>Isotopically, we know they are land plants
the fact that they grazed on earthly plants doesn't mean they wouldn't also lurk in swamps. you can find hippos travel miles from their usual water basin
>Historically, the ideas that they were lake bound swamp grazers or that they required deep water to fuck we’re invented as an explanation for great size in excess of calculated bone strengths by people who were less good at math than modern paleontologists doing the same calculations
i have my doubts since the average person can't even do basic multiplications in columns, but aside from that, we've recovered giant titanosaurids in recent times that range well over 100t, and they were bulky as hell, so whatever calculation they made regarding overall mass distribution is still up to debate.
