whats the difference between training and brainwashing?

>>5109394That's kinda like asking if there is a difference between excercise and strength building programs. One falls into the umbrella of the other. Brainwashing falls into training as it is just a very particular process of training someone psychologically. Is it applicable to animal training though? Not really. You can condition anything to perform x response to y stimuli which the bulk of animal training is built on, but that is not exactly brainwashing. Pavlovian response is far more instinctual and doesn't actually require the subject to change it's abstract thinking process for it to be ingrained. You need to actually "program" the subject by changing their psychological profile manually, warping the abstractional thinking process. That is difficult to do on a human subject and often requires it to be done from childhood for non-consenting or with an adult subject that is willing to consent to the reprogramming. This is how you get people creating false memories on purpose or telling themselves a lie over and over until they believe it. Applying this to an animal however is out of the question.

Brainwashing involves harm and loss of identity/self. Unless you're running some old school experiments on animals before ethical concerns, something like Harry Harlow, or you have someone locked in your basement/ being fed small quantities of drugs you're not brainwashing them. Training is just repeatedly teaching desired boundaries, behaviors, or so on. And pets will train you in the same way you train them. Cat purring? The human learns to respond to the stimulus with treats or petting. Dog standing by the door and whimpering? The human learns to put on some shoes and get the leash.
