Terrifying, but in an awe and respect sorta way. They embody what, to me, is so scary about the American wilderness. Big and deadly, but ultimately if you are smart - very fun and interesting. Bears are among those legendary creatures from all of human history, like Wolves and Eagles. Majestic and powerful. picrel in The Boss from Banff. 700lbs and something like 30 years old. What an incredible beast.

I came across a little baby bear when I was camping years ago. His mom abandoned him, he'd show up every morning when I cooked breakfast and root around in the bushes about 20 feet from me. He'd sit and watch me eat, then disappear into the forest for the rest of the day. He showed up every morning all 7 days I was there.Hope he made it through the winter.
I think he kept finding acorns and grubs under the leaves, he seemed to be chewing on something most of the time.
Part of me regrets not giving him some food, but I know that's stupid and if his mom was somehow around she might be tempted to wreck my shit.
It was cloudy and the thunder would scare him sometimes so he'd scurry halfway up a tree and look around for a while.
When it started to rain he crawled about 40 feet up and went to sleep on a branch of the tree, stayed there for a good hour until the rain stopped.
Anyways that's my bear story.
