brown doves like to roost in the patio cover during the springtime to hatch their eggs. a new family arrived recently, the mother dove had been tending to the babies while the father patrolled the fence to watch over the yard. but one of my mom’s huskies has a strong hunting instinct and likes to stay out in the yard all night, it ended up eating the babies when they attempted their first flight. it is so upsetting because this has happened before and my mom still didn’t think to leash the dog up so that the babies could have space to practice flying. i’ve been feeling heartbroken over it all day, just completely senseless to have these innocent souls snatched away. they’ll never experience the wind against their feathers, basking in the summer sun, finding love, or raising babies of their own. all they had was a brief period in the nest before it was cut short. i’m in kind of a bad place over it if anyone has suggestions on how to cope

There will be more baby doves. They are doves. Pay attention to your animals, dogs and cats.

That's just nature, some if the grow up and have chicks others get eaten. If you are dead set on keeping the doves alive next breeding season either leash the dog or make a big cage for it.

Doves/pigeons, quail, turkeys, pheasants, ducks, geese, grouse etc were convenience food before we decided to just make chickens into tendies. Everything eats them. Welcome to nature, aka real life.

I’m glad your moms dog got a good meal and something eating good food in this world didnt feel the need to keep its meal alive and locked in a 1x1 cage for a year first, but I’m now horrified that her mentally ill “son” might abuse them for daring to… eat meat.

>hey mom you need to torment your highly intelligent dog that needs a lot of space because what if they ate a bird known for forming pest infestations? The the dog up and torment them because I was raised on talking animal cartoons, furry porn, and video games think the retarded tree chicken is cutr
She should kick you out or force you to watch 90s-2000s animal documentaries back when they showed actual nature and not a feminist narrative about strong animal womyn created with careful editing

Like, holy shit retard, just wait until you find out what literally every cat does to mice and where McBurgers come from
Sorry you were socialized on nick wilde and just hops ERPs via discord and now have no emotional base in reality

Sorry about that, we usually don't revert typo corrections but they pushed new code recently and it's been pretty buggy. We're still working on ironing out all the kinks, just give us some time.

>That's just nature
No it's not. Pets are invasive species.

>species distributed by bird shit
>YASSS NATURE
>by clinging to a monkey
>WOW AWESOME
>by colony building insects
>SO COOL THAT ANIMALS CAN DO THIS
>by tribal humans who live in stick and mud nests
>THE INDIGENOUS ARE SO NATURAL I LOVE THE WAY THEY CHANGE ECOSYSTEMS
>by more intelligent people who build rock hives
>NOOOO INVALID KILL IT TORTURE IT IT MEANS NOTHING IT IS WORTHLESS
No.

Doves thrive way too well in human hives. Dogs are an important check on their population and selective pressure towards more intelligent fledgeling treatment and being less r-selected. Cats pressure them not to become too docile and unaware in adulthood. Their species is thus maintained in an upward trajectory towards fully securing a niche that won’t annoy us and will guarantee them longer, better lives. This is nature.

i hope so, i will make more of an effort to make sure they’re safe in the future

is it ever okay to move a nest? it would have been better in the side yard where it’s behind a gate
>>5115020
just sad when its babies. they deserved a chance and although they became a meal the dog already gets fed nicely so it feels unnecessary. i would never harm the dog though, i don’t blame her for her instincts
>>5115022
i am moved out. and it’s an old dog too so i don’t think a leash would be inhumane, she mostly just lays in her pet bed anyways. or just keeping her inside for the night, that’s hardly torture
>>
i might also look into making a couple nest boxes for the side yard

Huskies are really popular dogs. I see as many people walking huskies as I see people walking lab mutts. Every BYB has huskies.

common complaints lodged against dogs are that they are too clingy, too servile, bark at people 2 blocks away and have a musty odor. huskies dont have any of these problems so its not surprising they’re popular. they’re also great pest control and groom themselves a lot.
