While you wasted your time developing mating displays I studied placental birth.
While you hoarded the diurnal niches I mastered nocturnal survival.
While you perfected your apex predator hunting skills in pursuit of vanity I cultivated inner strength.
And now that the asteroid is at the gate and the world is on fire you have the audacity to call me for help?

>I studied placental birth.

Early mammals would've been monotremes and marsupials

The impact would not have looked like a burning rock flying through the sky. The estimated size of the Chicxulub asteroid was between 10 -15 kilometers in diameter, which itself is already nearly the height of the troposphere and vastly exceeding the size of mount Everest, while potentially made of heavier material. All of this moving at about 20 km/s or 45,000 mph, or 30 times faster than a high-power bullet. It would have barely entered the upper atmosphere before igniting it entirely, touching down while its upper extreme was still in the stratosphere. It would have looked more like a small moon drifting towards the surface before igniting the entire horizon brighter than a thousand suns than your classic image of a long-tailed fireball. It's no wonder these animals were absolutely fucked, human beings have never seen anything like it and probably would not survive it either. "Cataclysm" doesn't begin to describe this event.
