This and the reason California has such bad fires is specifically because of their aggressive fire *suppression* activities, which allows brush to accumulate and dry out of several years instead of naturally burning away every 1-2 years as it ought to, which means the fires - when they get out of control - are much hotter and more dangerous because there is more fuel and more verticality.
It comes down to stupid midwits who have no understanding of nature being put in charge of policy.
