Hey, im new to mycology but I really wanted to start growing fungui.I'm kinda depressed so i thought a new hobby will help me out, i always were interested in mushrooms. I just wanted to know some book or information abour the topic? or which mushrooms are great for begginers? I'm not looking for any particular kind of mushroom, I really just want to see a mushroom grow. Preferable that its safe to consume so I feel that I did something usefull, but I just want something that heasily grows and want to know what kind of stuff would I need.
>>5126406>growing gourmet & medicinal mushrooms by paul stametsprobably one of the most complete and in depth book around.you can start with oyster mushrooms. they grow very aggressive and will tolerate some mistakes.you want a pressure cooker for sterilizing and jars for growing spawn. my workflow is:>cloning or germinating spores in a petri dish>selecting and propagating healthy mycelium on further dishes>grow a liquid culture in a jar>inoculate grain jars with a syringe of liquid myelium>inoculate wood or bulk substrate with grain spawn>fruit I find that very easy to do cleanly and with minimal equipment and costs. syringe inoculation through the filter of a sterlized jar means you dont have to open it and get very little contamination, as long as your liquid culture is clean. Im not using a glovebox, laminar flow hood or anything like that. just wipe everything with alcohol, work next to the updraft of a bunsen burner and flame sterlilize my tools.with oysters, you can even get away with just starting it up between some moist cardboard and then add some straw or wood shavings bit by bit. its very satisfying to get a nice culture finished and seeing them grow in just a few days, then making a tasty meal with it. youll probably find more mushroom growers in the /out /hmg general than on /an btw
