You don't want to do anything to scare it while it gets used to you. Also be very careful playing with the kitten with your hands, because that can train the kitten that hands are an okay thing to attack, even when you aren't playing. If you can, be consistent in how you use your language. Say it's name often. If you need to scold the kitten, realize that it can't understand you, so both pick it up and move it elsewhere while also saying the phrase you will use to tell it to stop doing something. In my experience, snapping my fingers is a really good audio queue, and all of my cats know that if I start snapping, it means to stop doing whatever it is they're doing and leave.

a while back we took in a stray cat who ended up being pregnant an having other issues and we ended up with like 10 other cats and completely overwhelmed. only manage to find homes for 4 of them on our own i spent a whole summer taming her and playing with her to gain her trust and i always felt uniquely bonded to her even though later she became somewhat more distant and stressed out because of all the other cats now in the house we ended up getting in touch with an organization working in our area to help find homes for cats, and today we ended up surrendering her. i guess we'll end up keeping a few of her kittens i chose to surrender her because she had health problems and i hope to God they will get her all sorted out and find a good home for her, since we couldnt afford to provide for her. and im also worried she might have gotten pregnant again when she escaped a while back and we cant handle that but holy shit, it hurts man. dont get me wrong i love the kittens we'll be keeping, but ultimately shes the one i wanted to keep. i spent all that time gaining her trust and bonding with her. it almost feels like ive betrayed her on some level. i have a nagging sense of guilt on top the grief of losing her. especially since it was kind of last minute and i expected they would be taking some of the kittens today, not her. i have to keep reminding myself that she was a stray and i may well have saved her from a truly miserable life. i pray to God she will go on to have a good life.

Cats used to it will often stretch out their paws reflexively, and the few ones that love it will start kneading, so it usually ends up having the same effect. My fucking cat contracted a stomach bug of some sort. I took her to the vet Saturday and they x-rayed her. No foreign bodies in her system, but since the anti nausea meds wore off she's back to refusing food. She's refused her plaid diet that the vet prescribed since yesterday morning. Went to a vet due to cat's liquid shits among other things. Vet says commercial cat food is all shit, and a homemade diet is most healthy, gives a few suggestions with some specifics and things to be wary of but still nothing resembling an actual diet prescription.Well it obviously sounded extremely fucking dubious, and after a bunch of googling I've found a lot of ledditors parroting something something veterinary nutritionist or don't bother.Now, I have reasons both not to completely dismiss the vet's advice (he otherwise seemed relatively competent), and not to immediately trust shit I read online no many how many people say it (because of course). My cat is having the hiccups for a whole day, some persistent coughing and he ate like 15% of what he normally used to. At least he is drinking water. I THINK he half-swallowed some piece of plastic, he is not much of a hairball cat. I think he just needs to puke it out, but he is not letting it go all the way. Is there anything I can do? If he is not better by tomorrow morning, I'll take him to the vet.
My cat has had a really red and watery inner eyelid on his right side for about 2 days now. No visible swelling, no hair loss around the eye, no bleeding or puss, just tears. No cloudiness in the pupil or any indication of blindness. He can mostly open his eye, about 85% of the way but not fully, and its visibly worse when he's just woken up. I think he either scratched it playing with the other cats, got hair stuck in it, or he scratched himself while grooming or itching. Does anyone have any experience with this? How long does eye irritation usually take to heal? I can't really take him to the vet unless it gets worse because it's expensive and the vet in my area is already crowded + underfunded.
This is my cat Swish and I love the shit out of her. She follows me around and even when I don’t see her, I can just call her name and she appears out of cat space. Make sure you invest in or make a GOOD scratching post, most of the ones you get in the store are too short and too wobbly for a cat too feel comfortable putting all their weight on it. You need something at least as tall as the cat at their full size, and the wider the base the better (worth putting a weight plate on the base). Also cat trees are really nice, it gives a big sturdy scratching post AND a way to get up high to observe their surroundings. Don't get them neutered right away, i feel like too many vets try to just get it out of the way, and you want to wait until they've reached almost full size, but before they start spraying to cut the nuts off. Until they start tapering off in size free-feed them (always make sure there is food in the bowl). Get a can of wet kitten food, add some water, and stir the whole thing up until it has the consistency of a thick stew/thin paste.Also get a cat fountain (or make one), I was genuinely surprised at how much more water my cat drank after I got it. Even though they're kittens and will be raised together you still want to go with one litter box per kitten, and an extra one isn't a bad idea. When you first get the kittens, confine them to a single room where their litter, water, and food is contained. Let them slowly get used to those surrounding, and then slowly expand the space they're allowed to roam in. Depending on how much space you have maybe use a baby gate. REMOVE EVERY SINGLE CORD/CABLE YOU CAN FROM THEIR AREAS! Headphone cables and USB's are the exact perfect size for them to chew on when they're teething. I always get a smallish plush dog toy and I try to transfer aggressive rough housing onto the toy. Prepare for 6 months of fucking chaos because kittens.

Last time he was weighed before today was at the vet during a check-up around a month ago, the weight above was on my home scales so not sure how accurate it is. During the last check-up my vet was really satisfied with his body condition and said he was in excellent health. I am just worried about his weight as it is definitely on the leaner side for his age/breed. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow to be weighed and checked by a vet, hopefully he is okay. He is not exhibiting any behavioural issues and seems to be eating fine, although it is impossible to tell how much he is eating verse his brother because they share food bowls. Should I be worried? Try throwing stuff they can very easily pick up in their mouth. Even small toys may not be easy for them to grab. When they do fetch, its seems innate, I've only had one do it, and she did it from the start, and every single time. She was so proud bringing it back too... Anyways, buying tons of toys is pretty useless, she'd probably have more fun if you spent 20 minutes crumpling paper balls and throwing them around her. Its important to keep your cat motivated and healthy, but they have their own life rhythm and personalities as well, so don't be surprised if you've got a chill cat that likes snuggling and sleeping more than playing. If you play with her around 1~2h a day and you still think she's getting really bored, you might want to try introducing her to a second cat to see if she reacts well.

As for the yowling, he doesn't do that normally. Looks like his weight is down by 200g (5.52 down to 5.32 over the course of about 6 weeks). It is only like 3.5% of his total body weight so not huge, but I want him to be steadily gaining weight at his age, not losing it.

Update: my Maine Coon who had lost a little weight saw the vet today. She said he is healthy, but wouldn't want to lose too much more weight and compared him to a very slim person (you wouldn't tell your skinny friend to go on a diet). She said his recent small amount of weight loss is probably related to some mild oral pain as his gums are a little inflamed. We got him some plaque-off to put into his food and they did a blood test just to rule out anything insane (she said the blood test wasn't strictly necessary but good to have for peace of mind). Glad he is okay bros, I was tossing and turning last night worrying about him.

I had to put my baby boy down, just half a decade old. I noticed his coat suddenly looked a little shabby a couple days prior and the tips of his ears were drooping so I thought it was an ear infection coming back since he had gotten treated for one fairly recently. One day I find him barely able to stand up and breathing really heavy, I rush him to the vet and his lungs are filled with fluid from cancer.I also have a girl who was found in rough shape a year or two after him and still has a weak constitution and anxiety issues. I've always been paranoid I was going to lose her early, but I never thought twice about the boy. Shit was entirely out of left field. I let her sniff his body before taking him to get cremated because I heard it was good for their peace of mind, and it was rough. He was the only other cat she wasn't terrified of, so I feel like I'm keeping her company while she grieves more than the other way around. If anyone wants a nice cheap effective DIY cat toy. Get a medicine bottle. Use a heated nail/pin or drill to put a few small holes in it. Fill it up with some cat nip and a few marbles/ball bearings, then put the cap on. Its the perfect size that they can pick up up in their mouths, but they can't get leverage to bite through it, the marbles give it a bit of weight, and helps crush up and move around the cat nip, while also making it a little noisier.
