Guys so there’s a bit of a pickle I’m in.
Neighbors’ cat was let in the house by people that live with me and now the cat has come back twice. I don’t know who the cat belongs to but we aren’t mistreating it.
He’s very friendly but I feel like I’m doing a bad thing letting the cat in because he isn’t my cat even if he seems to enjoy the petting he gets. What do I do?

yes. cats are super dumb and have very limited neuroplasticity once they mature. the degree to which their brain flattens and solidifies is actually standard for most animals and everything else is an outlier. locking in learned survival strategies that got them to adulthood statistically gets them far enough to reproduce several times as long as they stay in their environment.

No, at least not consistently, it changes with age I think, as a kitten my boy would spend my showers with me, and would fall asleep in the sink with the water stream I'd leave for him to drink flowing on his head or back, but ever since he got past ~6 months he absolutely refuses to get wet.

my cat just died, took her in for breathing problems on the 18th, first vet who said she had plerual effusion and to put her down... then went to ER, they ran tests and saw blood and heart were good, removed and tested the fluid in her lungs and said it had atypical thingys in it, probably cancer but never got an official diagnosis and didnt do any further testing from that point

all that shit stressed her out too much also; so we opted not to euthanize her because fuck that, she wasn't in pain except for maybe on her last day, today, she did have a few shortlived screaming moments

My cat keeps pissing in my fucking bedroom when I'm in it.

I have tried checking for infections, bought a feliway, cleaned my front door cause there's a neighbor cat that might've pissed on it before, and moved litter boxes to better accomodate. He does this once a day and at this point I'm ready to take him to the vet and get his nuts cut off.

I'm trying to avoid this because as much as people are on about "muh spay and neuter" I raised this cat from kittenhood and he doesn't mark. He only started doing this when I got a job that changed when I leave/come back and when I got the feliway he stopped, but now he's started up again and I'm getting pissed cause it's forcing me awake.

Is there a solution, or am I going to have to get his balls yeeted even if it desu bugs me cause I am also a man with balls and is kind of fucked.

a while back we took in a stray cat who ended up being pregnant an having other issues and we ended up with like 10 other cats and completely overwhelmed. only manage to find homes for 4 of them on our own

i spent a whole summer taming her and playing with her to gain her trust and i always felt uniquely bonded to her even though later she became somewhat more distant and stressed out because of all the other cats now in the house

we ended up getting in touch with an organization working in our area to help find homes for cats, and today we ended up surrendering her. i guess we'll end up keeping a few of her kittens

i chose to surrender her because she had health problems and i hope to God they will get her all sorted out and find a good home for her, since we couldnt afford to provide for her. and im also worried she might have gotten pregnant again when she escaped a while back and we cant handle that

but holy shit, it hurts man. dont get me wrong i love the kittens we'll be keeping, but ultimately shes the one i wanted to keep. i spent all that time gaining her trust and bonding with her.

it almost feels like ive betrayed her on some level. i have a nagging sense of guilt on top the grief of losing her. especially since it was kind of last minute and i expected they would be taking some of the kittens today, not her. i have to keep reminding myself that she was a stray and i may well have saved her from a truly miserable life. i pray to God she will go on to have a good life.

I ended up getting the boys fixed because it was cheaper but that may have been a mistake since she escaped a few times and may have gotten herself knocked up.

Does walking the cat on a leash like a dog suppress these urges?

I wonder why the cat is filling the litter box so fast.
Used to have multiple cats with a smaller box than the one I currently have and usually twice a day was enough to keep it clean.
For some reason the cat is filling it in less than afternoon.
Not more piss than usual and the shit is solid enough, so diarrhea or infections is rather unlikely. Food has not changed and no particular mood change outside of the litter filling fast and some maniac need to get under the cover while I'm sleeping.
Never done it before, not even it had a tooth infection and it would be expected to search for warmth.
Checking with the vet this week regardless, but I'm wondering if someone has had similar experiences.

Is my cat fucking with me?

I have a one year old cat, its my first cat, I love him and all that and he's doing great.
Usually he sleeps in my bed throughout the night, but for the past three weeks he's been acting like a fucking schizo when its time for bed.
He'll sit at the edge of the bed, staring out into the living room, then he'll pan his head like someone is entering the bedroom, until he finally just stares into one of the corners. He'll occasionally get very vocal at this point. There is no one there. I don't believe in ghosts. I've never experienced anything supernatural but this little fucker has been doing this shit for weeks now. I don't think he wants attention, because if I pet him at this point he doesn't really care. He'll also refuse to look at me while maintaining "eye contact" with whatever bullshit he thinks he sees. My Aki had regular diarrhea that she would do outside of the litter box. The first vet I took her to said she had Giardia, which she did not. It took a year and a half before I got the correct diagnosis of IBD. By then it had established itself too strongly, and even after half a year of medications, chemo, and immune suppressants I had to put her to sleep last month.

She was originally an indoor cat. The first few times we let her out, we accompanied her
We've had her for nearly a decade and she always comes back home
If anyone is wondering why we let her out, it's because she enjoys it a lot. I pick her up when she comes back inside and she's purring like crazy

Touching a cat's paws in general is a good way to get the claws out, even if its just by pissing the cat out. Cats used to it will often stretch out their paws reflexively, and the few ones that love it will start kneading, so it usually ends up having the same effect. Its best to attempt when they are sleeping next to you, they are usually more cuddly as they fall asleep/wake up.

You can try, but most cats reacts terribly to the leash, worse even with the harness, they just freeze on their side and let you pull them the whole way. Most cats won't want to walk along with you. My old gal that I lost last year, she would, but only around the block, and only if I was a few meters behind her, but any loud noise would make her run and that was a hassle. She was also a very vocal and responsive cat, she'd constantly call out, and if I said "no" she'd let out a little "couic" noise and fall back to my feet.
So it's not impossible, but I think it depends on the cat's personality and how it sees you. Even if a cat loves you, its main reflex when feeling threatened is to get the fuck out of there, it rarely perceives you as a source of protection. More even in an outside setting it doesn't know.

Cats either want to range far or stays in a very limited area, which they know and feel safe in. House cats that were kept in their early life but are allowed out under supervision at first tend to remain close by. If your land has a well delimited fence or even just bushes, they'll usually stay in, even more so if you discourage them when they first show interest in getting out.
I've never had a cat just run out and never come back. Obviously, it happens, but I've raised 7 cats now, and always allowed them some form of outside access. I don't think any ever killed anything either, one had a pretty epic boxing fight with a squirrel once, but that's it

When we moved to a whole new state my old cat snuck out and somehow wandered around uncharted territory for four days before finding his way back to the new home we've only lived in for a couple days. But he's a big [spoiler]pussy[/spoiler] so I dunno how far he actually went
New kitty is an exciteable psychopath that climbs and chews on everything so I'm worried he'll get distracted and wander off and wont come back. Can't really give him an enclosed area to explore on his own either

I really think this is another reason why I absolutely adore Maine Coons. I've owned three at this point and all of them actively try to pull back their claws if I hold their paws. They know claws could hurt me and they never want to hurt me.

My buddy died yesterday. Had to put him down, he could barely function due to heart failure. Possibly the worst thing that I've ever had to do. He was my best friend.

*That* doesn't really mean anything. My cat spends his days hissing and looking mean at the squirrels outside the window, he's absolutely insane when we play, to the point that I have to be careful with the fishing pole, or else he'll fully run into the walls or jump without caring if there's a good landing spot or not, but when I let him out on the balcony, he just loafs and let the squirrels come up to his face and doesn't do anything.
Your boy could be a shredder, or he could become completely afraid and never leave your door's sight. Mines have always been closer to the latter, and I don't think I would have been comfortable with letting them roam, I'm already amazed at how many of the outside cats around my house have survived 5+ years.

I held Aki in my lap, the place she always wanted to be, and had to hold her down while they injected the medicine to knock her out first. What I didn't know was that her eyes weren't going to fully close. I had to hold her still as she struggled slightly because getting injected with that much stuff probably doesn't feel good. I felt her breath on my left hand, and felt the final breath...

My other cat Yuki who died way too early (I am never using that fucking breeder ever again)... I only saw her final moments because of the weirdest coincidence. Aki had a suction cup attached ledge on a window she would look out from, and it was always falling down. I was laying down on a weekend, trying to get some more sleep, and I heard a bang. For a second I thought about staying in bed and ignoring it, but I decided to check it anyway. In front of me, Yuki was wheezing and heaving trying to breathe. I thought maybe it was a hairball and lifted her up trying to get her out of her bed, to which she exhaled and went completely limp. I threw on clothes, called the vet to tell them I was bringing her in, and drove the 3~ minutes it took for me to get to the vet knowing full well she was never going to be resuscitated. It was the weekend, so an autopsy was impossible, but every vet I've talked to about it said that it likely was that her heart failed, and her breathing was due to that. I was never going to save her.

That's two cats I've had die in my hands. A third died thankfully of old age as I pet her on the floor, but... to have it happen two years apart is incredibly crushing.

I'm taking Sumi, the cat I got to keep Aki from losing her mind due to me going back to work, who is two and a half, in to get an echo cardiogram because I want to make sure her heart is okay. I really hate the fact that I got her, promised her she'd have a big sister to take care of her, and now she's alone. I have caught her laying in my room next to the bed Aki spent her final days in

My fucking cat contracted a stomach bug of some sort. I took her to the vet Saturday and they x-rayed her. No foreign bodies in her system, but since the anti nausea meds wore off she's back to refusing food. She's refused her plaid diet that the vet prescribed since yesterday morning. I gave her chunk tuna last night just to put something in her stomach but she refused that this morning which is really alarming because tuna is her absolute favorite
I don't have the money to keep taking her to the vet but I know how hard not eating can be on a cat
Not to mention the diarrhea
I'm just really worried about her at this point
She's 4yo

How do I get my cat to stop pissing on the floor? This has only started in the past couple of months after having the cat for a decade. I thought it may have been because I was away for a week but it keeps happening. The litter boxes are barely used, and she goes outside so I really don't know why she's doing it
