The elk was clearly invading his space and trying to intimidate him, if someone did this to me, they'd take a punch to the face.
>>5156836
An elk can't hurt a bison, tho, their antlers are fragile and would break if used against such a bulky animal, their kicks could hurt us humans, but doubt it would do much to a bison, so it wouldn't really be risking wounds, and would be putting the shit talking elk in its place

So why DIDN'T we ever domesticate foxes? We domesticated wolves, but foxes are just as easily (perhaps more) able to be domesticated. Within 6 generations we made dogs out of foxes, but for wolves that supposedly took 10,000 years.

>>5158140
You have modern medicine and a globe-spanning hyper intelligent society at your back. A bison's hide is tough, but it's still easily able to be pierced or scratched by an elk's antlers. Remember, we used to make tools out of elk horn, they're not fragile whatsoever. And a single scratch, let alone a puncture, could easily become infected and kill the bison. If some dickhead got in your face wielding a knife, would you still punch them in the face without hesitation, or would you at least consider trying to de-escalate? That's basically what this is.

Fox urine has an incredibly rancid smell and they tend to shit and piss everywhere indoors to mark their territory. Just because we domesticated them doesn't mean they make good companion animals.

when i was 10 i was swimming in the atlantic and a giant wave got me and pulled me under. i opened my eyes and it was what i think being inside a dryer must be like. i could see the curve of the wave under the water. when i finally surfaced, it had pulled me like 1/8 mile out. doesn't sound like much but it was scary being pulled so far from where i was in seconds

i love how animals act when they know they are guilty of something. they had a ball ripping shit apart, then realize its wrong and they change their entire behavior once you enter the room. the tail stops wagging, the ears go down/back, they hide in a corner, they wont look directly at you. its kind of endearing and shows at least theres a few neurons connecting. they're all goodbois in the end but the reaction they do when they know they did something wrong is priceless

you dont even know the half of it. if you really want to get mad look up the chinese dog festival. they put dogs alive into a giant wok and then beat them to death because they think fear and pain makes the meat more tender. the jews do it too. its disgusting subhuamn shit. the chinese/japs especially with whaling and dolphins too. farming animals is one thing but to purpsely cause then fear first rather than just killing them clearly? that some subhuman satanic shit

i was talking more about how dogs act when they know they fucked up or you walk into the room and catch them. that part is great

Not at all. Foxes are solitary creatures. Most animals that were domesticated tend to be social or herd animals so they can be easily selectively bred to be tame around humans since they already have social/herd genes. Solitary animals on the other hand take a lot more work to be bred to be social and stop seeing most other living creatures as threats or competition.

Isn't that just most tame but not domesticated animals? Human hands are pretty cool and we enjoy being petted by them after first getting used to humans.

Taming is gaining the trust of an animal over a single lifetime. Domestication is a process that requires multiple generations. Wild animals, even tamed ones, do not like to be touched as a general rule. These foxes also developed new coat colors, coat patterns, and other doglike features such as curly tails and physical changes to the shape of their face. Grooming is also not a mammalian trait, it is only seen in social animals, most commonly in birds.

Being able to touch most animals and have them enjoy the process is extraordinary. It requires a lot of effort and very specific circumstances to tame one. You usually have to raise that animal from birth, removed from anything natural to it, and force it to have to socialize only with you or a limited number of humans. That animal sees you as it's parent and/or sibling, and because you never let it mature (learn to hunt, hide, acclimate to a wild environment, etc.) it is essentially kept as a baby for its whole life, socially and mentally speaking.

It can take years to domesticate a species, dozens and hundreds of generations, but only a couple generations for them to revert back to their wild type. Pigs turning into hogs when escaping farms is common - within 3 generations they begin to grow hair, change pigment, act feral, and even grow tusks just like wild boar. Dogs, which we've spent thousands of years domesticating, can revert to wolf behavior in a single generation (feral dogs). There's a reason why the most domesticated breeds, like labs, act like puppies their whole lives - they're literally stunted, on purpose, to rely on humans and enjoy our company. It's absolutely an accomplishment - if it weren't, we'd have domesticated essentially every animal on the planet by now and people owning crazy animals like tigers wouldn't be seen as weird or dangerous.

the only way for a captive frog to get that stupidly fat is for you to overfeed it. They have their own slime coats that they don't need you rubbing off and smooshing all the oils and bacteria in your skin into their porous skin, along with a ton of chlorinated salty water burning them now that you've removed any bit of protection they might have had

Same reason for spiders.
Let a spider climb in your ear and just chill out.
Let one bite you.
Let one lay egg sacs in your orifices.

I have not been to instanbul but been to other places in turkey and they have mutt stray dog packs running around and are apparently a danger at night.
They also just have rubble on the ground, where in a civilized country the roads would be paved and have pavements for people to walk, its just rubble, scummy.

Not that anon, but there are literally like 5 spiders with a bite that's medically significant. A ton of spiders have a weird reputation of being super dangerous when they're literally not - yellow sac spiders, hobo spiders, the list goes on. One person has died from a hobo spider bite, and that was in the 60's after doctors INJECTED WHISKEY DIRECTLY INTO THE MAN'S BLOODSTREAM REPEATEDLY. Yet that one death has manifested in the public zeitgeist as "hobo spiders deadly!!!" It's incredibly fucking retarded. No one dies from spider bites unless they live in Australia and decided to stick their dick into a funnel web spider tunnel.

Oh no, you misunderstand. I fucking HATE spiders and they freak me the hell out. I think a world without spiders in it would be infinitely better even if half the ecosystem collapsed. But that doesn't mean that they're incredibly dangerous, just that they're sins against the natural order.

Whiskey was thought to cure spider bites in the long long ago. I can't find the study paper on the hobo spider bite right now, but there's another case where in 1901 a guy got bit by a black widow, was treated with cocaine and morphine, then downed a bottle of whiskey all at once, promptly passed out, was injected with whiskey and fucking strychnine, then mysteriously died and it was assumed to be the spider's fault. You can find this report in a book titled Southern California Practitioner Volume 16 (XVI), 1901, edited by Walter Lindley. I went down the rabbit hole for this shit a while ago and it's hard to track it all back down when it's scattered in book archives. Anyway, yeah, most spider bites are pretty damn well harmless, and even the more infamously dangerous ones are not as bad as people seem to think they are.
