Best match of 2019. Think it got lost in the shuffle because 2019 was such a weird year for wrestling and that match felt like something out of a parallel universe by the end of that year.

It’s utter kino. You have Omega, who is champion and represents the new era of wrestling that Japan is heading towards. Then you have conservative Tanahashi, who saved New Japan and believe he needs to do it again and defeat Omega due to him not liking what Omega represents.

Tanahashi being the ageing gunslinger who had one more big win in him to defeat Omega and vanish him from New Japan was absolutely based and the amazing thing is that wasn’t even what the story was suppose to be. They made it up on the fly because Omega was leaving. If Omega wasn’t leaving he wasn’t dropping the title.

One of the GOAT matches.

It really bothered me that this got very little buzz for MotY in 2019. Besides the build being great with Tanahashi going through this year long fall and comeback story, the work and psychology was fucking outstanding.

This one, too. WK13 was too fast in the undercard but the main events were so fucking great.
