If we exchange half of my cells with yours, do we become you or me?
>>
>>944878897
>do we become you or me?

It doesn't matter. We are not our bodies.
>>
>>944878897
No, we become an entirely third person, you're essentially asking if us having a baby means that said baby is me or you, to which the answer is neither as the baby is its own person.
>>944878943
Our personalities are an emergent property of our bodies anon.
If we are not our bodies and the processes that result from them, what are we?
>>
Sounds lethal.

Consciousness
>>
>>944878897
the one cell that carries my consciousness (unknown to you or me) determines what or who is my self. good luck
>>
>>944879361
>Consciousness
Where does that come from and what does it need to exist?
>>
>>944879422
>Where does that come from and what does it need to exist?

It's unknown. It could emerge from intelligence, and evolved as humans evolved.

But we understand very little of it.
>>
>>944879652
>It could emerge from intelligence, and evolved as humans evolved.
So it could be the result of a biological process?
Wouldn't it be fair to expect it to be the result of our bodies then, making our bodies us?
>>
>>944879812
>making our bodies us?

No, because consciousness is not a "form" like thought, emotion or personality.

Our bodies change, so does our personalities, but awareness remains the same.

Try to think of it like growing up from child to adult: your body already changed dramatically, but the "thing aware of the change" doesn't change.
>>

>Our bodies change, so does our personalities, but awareness remains the same.
That's not entirely true though, newborn babies are conscious, but not in the way where they form memories like a toddler that is 3 years old or older and theory of mind usually forms later than that generally around the age of 6 or 7.
So I would say that awareness changes and grows as a person changes and grows.
It also seems to expand with experience, where your changes in personality are based on becoming aware of various things and you changing your thinking and behavior in relation to them.
>>
>>944880214
I could be wrong.
>>
>>944880269
So could I, I just don't see what consciousness would be if it wasn't an emergent property of our bodies and evolutionary history.
Like why would it be reasonable to separate our consciousness from our biology and what indications do we have of it being divorced from our physical forms?

Theres a theory that consciousness exists outside of the body, in an electricial field that surrounds all living organisms.
Some people have called this your "aura"
>>
>>944882387
Is there any evidence to support it?
>>
>>944878897
we become twin freaks
>>
>>944882557
I would argue there's more evidence that opposes it
if your physical body gets hit in the head, or you take certain drugs, you lose consciousness, memory, and even cognitive ability
personality can even greatly change from some injuries or traumatic events
if these were external you would think the consciousness and memory wouldn't be so tightly coupled to your physical body
>>
>>944882677
That sounds like reasonable skepticism on your part.

So when you visit your boyfriend, it's not "you" that's getting fucked in the ass?

To even call it a "theory" in the stricter, scientific sense of the word is pretty far fetched, especially because of what that other anon said, how physical alterations to your brain can change your personality.

But even ignoring that, if our consiousness is some "electrical field" it should be measurable. And then there is the problem of overlapping auras interfering with each other, where your brain gets mixed signals from your own and the aura off other people who are phsyically close to you. Does your consiousness change depending of if people are around you? Or is your aura somehow "coded" in a way or running on a frequency where only your brain can receive your aura?
Again, a bit too wild to call it anything more than maybe a hypothesis. In particular because the kind of people who believe in such things are usually the same who believe in bullshit like "healing stones".
