I'm thinking about getting a single subject teaching credential in general science. Any teachers here that can report what its like being a teacher in 2026. I heard it stressful but finding a job anywhere at the moment is horrible
>>
Start with subbing. Lower barrier to entry and if you do well you might get your own class
>>
Don’t do it lmao, if it’s high school in the West, you will burn yourself out in 5 years or less (I promise you, screenshot this if you don’t believe me). I’ve worked with qualified teachers who seem MISERABLE.

Get paid subbing a bit, see how you feel

I’d recommend training yourself in something else like computer/ai shit if you want to upskill, get an admin job for now

and work on any creative hobbies you have. If you can turn them into a career, do that. Even if it takes time.

source: someone who wanted to do teaching and is now building up a steady social media presence doing shit he loves

I am in california, we have a lot of tech here I was trying to learn some computer/tech stuff but theres been so many insane layoffs in that field that thousands of experienced people are fighting for a few spots.

Do you find being a teacher gives you time to do stuff on the side?

I worked full-time in secondary education (high school) for 5 years, it was fulfilling, but extremely draining and tiring, you’re up against “the system”, bullshit staff politics, nonsensical school rules, etc

Pros were that I finished my day by about 4pm latest, I was always home before my buds were

I’m currently working part time in secondary school as I work on my social media stuff and look for a remote/hybrid job (which my last job was)

It’s 2026, just find something remote/hybrid and prioritise your happiness honestly

This. I was a high school teacher 8 years ago for a while. Working with the students was fulfilling and there's a few I think I made a real difference in their lives. The admin staff/politics fucking sucked the soul out of everything else. The worst Karens/boss babes/art school droppout bitches/feminists will all find their way to working in schools and many of them will go out of the way to make the (few remaining) male staff miserable, you can't even just keep your head down. Final straw for me was getting written up for taking state allocated bereavement leave after my Father died. Gotten that stricken from my employment record but I had to go to district for that.

Now I'm a bartender at a high-end cocktail lounge and working on opening up my own, do a lot of events for even more income. Pay is 3x higher, get to drink on the job, don't come home feeling like every day is a new battle

Not a teacher myself, but thought about switching from engineering to teach calculus and physics in high school.
Quickly learned found out that other than butt fuck nowehere 40 students in K-12 districts you only get to teach the top courses from experience/tenure.
You have to start out by teaching remedial math and science to future drop outs and wait for the tenured teachers to retire before moving up.
Fuck that. I'd honestly be fine with cut in half pay to teach honors/AP kids and not deal with corporations and enjoy the extra time off. But not going to spend a decade to set that up.

From what I heard, it depends on your credentials and how your state does it. Having a physics level credential does give you access to teach physics class and at the AP/honors level. Usually, Physics isn't required for general ed, but is taken by students who care about academics and going to college. I heard physics is super in demand and hard to fill but I also hear that physics teachers usually stay and dont leave until retirement like you said. If you get math then yeah expect to teach all levels and the remedial kids who can't add or multiply.

Substitute first. Assess the job market, don’t make assumptions. I teach in a 75% non-white school, I’m racist as fuck, and I fucking love my job. Being doing it ten years. I made 100k gross last year, but that’s 50k in 2001 dollars, don’t forget that.

Maybe I should look into it again.
I do remember my high school calculus teacher only taught two classes: BC Calculus and remedial pre-algebra for multiple math-failed seniors. She was by far the best teacher I ever had, including undergrad and graduate school. A master of both ends of the spectrum.

Maybe focusing on the Physics side is more achievable. As you said, physics isn't a requirement, only two years of remedial biology/chemistry suffices for the average student.

I loved my physics and calculus teachers, they didn't dumb anything down and its crazy how much i learned still in high school because of them.

Does not compute.

Do you just resign yourself to watching them be stupid, little monkeys and continue teaching? Or take solace in the fact that niggers are retards anyway, so giving them bad educations is a non issue?

Or is it nonwhite like Hispanic and Polynesian?

They're not going to let a chomo like you baby rape the kids

Real talk, do you believe there is, I don't want to use the word conspiracy but, more of a bias towards women when it comes to modern hiring practices for education? Do you believe this might have negative outcomes for children at large? I remember there used to be a time when male teachers were up there in numbers as female teachers.
>>
>>946295310
Bias, absolutely. Yes, negative outcomes. The worst teachers are the unmarried women in their 30s-40s. As the kids say, they're cooked. Being a teacher has convinced me to homeschool my (future) children until middle school. Fill their lives with tons of extra curriculars. Then send them to private schools for the rest of the mandated education

yikes

ah hell nah my teacher on 4chan dawg we're cooked

I used to be a teacher in Texas teaching general science to 7th graders, don't teach science, instead teach mathematics since its easier to teach, switch schools every 4 to 5 years and you'll be fine, its very stressful.
