The internet peaked in the mid to late 1990s, when it wasn't choked by monetization and was full of wonder, people creating things for each other just for the joy of creation and sharing with the world. When search engines didn't exist, or sucked, and so it was mysterious and finding a new interesting website felt like an achievement, a special secret you could share with your friends.Now it's rotten, feeding on its own carcass, with scavengers and pickpockets around every corner and in every dark, fetid alley.We made a terrible mistake, and we would all be so much happier if we just pulled the plug on the whole failed experiment.
