internet until 2010 was actually surprisingly intellectual and well thought out. people who took time out of their day to post would actually try and make it something meaningful or at least witty. also almost zero moderation. the centralization of people to platforms is what killed it. i miss playing games like eve and WoW back them. the communities of MMOs were pretty tight since they acted as precursors to discord. the internet now is just ragebait or engagement slop now which is disingenuous grifters trying to collect adsense revenue which i dont blame, ive seen how much they make. it completely shits on any other job in this economy.
Old internet was literally an escape. You had instant messenger so I didn't have to call a girls house and talk to her fucking Dad, it had commercialess entertainment that wasn't on cable tv so you could show your friends shit they've never seen or heard of before, there were no micro-transactions or people asking you to sign up for an account.. Also CS had porno spray paints which was awesome
