I was drinking every day for a few years and I eventually decided to just stop. I apparently wasn't physically dependent on it yet since I didn't have any kind of withdrawal symptoms. If you're at the point where you'd experience withdrawal symptoms then I don't know if going cold turkey is necessarily a good idea, though.
