Is Windows 11 as bad as people claim it is? It feels like ever since I updated, my PC is going full retard, but at this point I am not sure if it's the PC or windows. Any computer masterminds on /bant/?
>>23811384Yeah W11 really is shit, and gets shittier with each update, because poo programmers.
>>23811384what do you mean your pc is going full retardwhats it doing?did you do an in-place upgrade or a fresh install?>>23811386its pretty much the same for end users other than a different looking GUI
osakabird
They further enshittified Windows 10 too with updates. But just about everything is shitty now. Steam, all web browsers, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, all bloated like crazy. Hanging up and taking time to open simple menu folders or other actions that should be instant.
>>23811384win11 is fucking awful, dudeapparently takes around 8gb of ram just when the machine first starts>I am not sure if it's the PC or windows.it's windows>>23812264yeah
>>23811384what do you intend to use the PC for, anon?it might be a good idea to switch to linux, or maybe stay on win10 LTSC
>>23811861Only upgraded from windows 10 to 11, no fresh install. And ever since then it feels like the computer takes a lot longer to even turn on, connect to the internet, the internet disconnects a lot (only on this PC) and generally it just feels slower, but maybe it is just time for a clean install, I did not do one for more than 2 years desu.
You have to do some tricks to remove the bloat
>>23811861>its pretty much the same for end users other than a different looking GUIno
>>23812287>but maybe it is just time for a clean install, I did not do one for more than 2 years desu.no, win11 sucks ass & is more than 2x slower
there's a chance your hard drive is also getting slower/dying, but the massive decrease in speed after installing win11 is because win11 sucks dick, not because you "need to do a clean install"
>>23812273The last decent one they made was 8.1 It could run smooth and on a lean two and a half GB.
>>23812277Just gaming and basic shit, I did think about switching to linux maybe it's finally time, seen a lot of people recommend it in the past year
>>23812312hmmi went straight from windows 7 to 10, i had a laptop with win8 but i didn't like itit seems like they tried to make it usable on PCs and tablets, but made something which sucked for both devicescertainly was better than win11 though lol>a lean two and a half GB.with linux, that gets shaved down to around 200mb, and it's absolutely usable for most things
>>23812316>Just gaming and basic shit, I did think about switching to linux maybe it's finally time, seen a lot of people recommend it in the past yeari can't personally recommend it, but i've heard gaming on linux is now very straightforwardit used to be a pain in the ass getting some windows games to work properly, but i've heard valve itself has done a lot of work on proton (a linux compatibility layer for games)the more competent OS itself means you should see a big boost in performance/playability, too
i think you should either switch back to win10 LTSC or pick a linux distro & start exploring that, if you mainly want to use it for gamingboth will be decent optionsi don't see any reason to use/learn win11 at this point, maybe unless you had to know it for your job or a certification or something
>>23812287Update your BIOS and reset your BIOS settings. Then try to update your drivers with https://youtu.be/3zKX2qTxkjs>Only upgraded from windows 10 to 11Never do that. Take a few hours every year to reinstall your system because Windows is unstable as fuck. So yeah, clean install after what I mentioned above.Add this before your install https://youtu.be/h9SpKVEc_Yo to make W11 less crappy. >Activation/Windows .iso/Office 365https://massgrave.dev/Visit /g/fwt for more infos
>>23812337this is good advice if you're intent on using win11, but there's only so much de-bloating you can doeven the new file explorer is slow & takes up like 2gb of ramjust seems like a bad idea to me, but again, this is all good advice>https://massgrave.dev/based
>>23812341Mine doesn't go that high. Maybe disabling fast startup might help.
>>23812389woah..that is windows 11?hmmmm, maybe i've been bamboozled
>>23812287do you have a custom built PC or a manufacture one like Dell/HP/Lenovo?if you have a branded PC (dell/HP) they typically have a driver updater utility software that you can use to make sure you have the latest compatible driversalso in the windows update area (scroll down) there is an 'optional updates' area where you can update those drivers tooif that doesnt work a fresh install is recommendedthe upgrade from 10-11 can do some funky things
>>23812404Only have a visual novel, Firefox and Steam currently running. Edge uninstalled. W11 uses more RAM, but the overall experience feels snappier than 10 imo Sometimes a KB would only install after the 3rd attempt... well, Windows.
>>23812341>>23812337using a custom Windows ISO and a fileless executable that runs only in memoryyou guys really dont understand what you're doing
>>23812544ok shnigga>>23812512i guess 8gb could be worse, for that amount of programs runningstill, if OP only has 8gb-16gb of ram, probably better to just stay away from win11
>>23812501I have custom built PC but I am too afraid to do those optional updates now that I googled that people had issues with them, but I might just do a clean install sometime in upcoming weeks. >>23812337Honestly if I do a clean install I will probably try out linux first but definitely saving those vids since I will probably fuck up with linux in some way >>23812555I got 32gb so maybe it really is just something acting up with my PC Thanks guys for the advice kinda just wanted confirmation that Windows 11 is le bad like everyone said but I got more from you
>>23812609i've never had an issue with the optional driver updates and I manage over 700 PC'syou can also choose to do just the networking ones if you are worried about something getting messed upjust so you can stop getting disconnected from the internet for the time beingdrivers are what's in between your OS and hardware and facilitate their communicationyour PC probably supports having multiple drives tooif you can afford a second SSD to dual boot linux it will be easier to wipe and start over if you mess something up and can always fallback to windows or a different install if neededhave fun troubleshooting linux ^^
>>23812609>Thanks guys for the advice kinda just wanted confirmation that Windows 11 is le bad like everyone said but I got more from youit looks like it's not as bad as i thought, maybe?if you want to try it, the advice from other anons is goodbut yeah if you have 32gb of ram, that's not the problemit could also be a weak CPU, maybe, idk how many cores you have
>>23812673>I manage over 700 PC's:o
>>23812732>it was real in my mind
>>23814466i'm gullible i supposethere are advantages to that, though
>>23811384You should upgrade to linux
>>23812673Thats fair but I tend to fuck up even the simplest tasks when it comes to PC stuff lole>>23812712AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor, should be okay no?>>23815220yeah I wanted to now but always felt scared because of it's reputation that you need to be a computer mastermind nerd to work with it
>>23811384yes its shit, what do you want to do on it though and are you happy to fuck around with shit and learn or do you want things to just 'work'
>>23815220fucking parrot, what distro then cunt?
