when i was in middle school, i was friends with this boy. big time nerd. he liked anime/cartoons, drawing, nintendo, and he played the piano. oftentimes i would stay after music class or in between periods to hear him play. he would play with so much passion, like something overwhelming came over him. when he was in this trance, he shut out all outside noise. sometimes i would ask him about the source material of the music, or if his hands cramped and he would completely ignore me. one time he did give me an answer to that once he finished playing, “no they don’t.” i used to think he was rude ignoring me like that. but looking back, i wish i was able to appreciate seeing him absorbed in something he loved. because it was beautiful.
