The only books on that I read are Herodotus and odyssey. I read primarily in my kindle but mainly ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian literature. I haven’t read those and I think I just got them because I wanted to have the essential western literature. I have not been in a state to read anything for a long time though.

At least you have them, so people will think you've read them and will give you credit for having read them.

Here is a rather short one; the others are too violent and have personal stuff.

I was born in a small town, bordering the naked sparse crooked trees and the hills in which behind walls lay the old graves. My life was that of a lonely boy. Of a sad boy. My mother would hit me, my father nowhere to be seen. And all I saw before me was toil and pain; nothing but a life of dreams as my only respite. The wickedness all around me was simply what was, and I often sat alone and feeling as if nothing cared for me. One day, when there was no work to do somehow, I wandered part the walls and into the hills, and seeing death I saw it as only a confirmation of the loneliness of life. The graves cracked and broken, the tombs isolated chambers without light, without other souls and joy. Graves would just rot and crack forever, and that would be all. But further along and beneath vines I saw a stone that had not weathered; and on it was an angel with sad empty eyes; and she knelt down before. I stared at them for seemingly hours and wondered what was this? Was it just sadness, was that all there is? But I could feel something beyond it, and suddenly the sadness didn’t feel so bad. I felt I was with the angel, and the angel was with me. And we were alone and so far away from everything else and nothing could be seen. But we loved each other and that was all there needed to be. No luxuries, no words, no dances. But there was love and it overwhelmed me, as we were white petals overlapping, a white rose shining in the dark with gentleness and appreciation. With kindness and gratitude which never ended. We never wilt for that light last forever, for true love cannot exhaust itself. I had to return home to toil, each and every day.

Now I am an old man, a lonely man with tired eyes and a rusted body. But before I sleep and my eyes close I know that love, it has always known me and I have known it, otherwise I would have never seen it in the angels eyes. I know it accepts me, and I know it will embrace me and after this I will have all I need. We have all we need.

You really should read the divine comedy it's mostly incomprehensible but that makes it genuinely feel like a madman's diary

I was reading Paradise Lost and got up to when Satan enters the garden but got kinda bored with the language because I felt it was too descriptive and not in the events enough but I should finish it. I haven’t read the Divine Comedy but I know it has a lot of references.
