yeah i think its fun
i name all my servers,VM's, rooters and switches after LOTR places and characters
it all surprisingly makes sense
for example various site routers and switched networks are the shire, rivendell, Minas Tirith and for that one place i really dont like...modor
then my hardware hosts and guests are all like sam/frodo are domain controllers, bilbo is a hardware host

got ccna certified 18 years ago but networking is just part of the fundamentals imho and very easy to learn compared to something like programming
this is me, added a little hello at the end of my tag line there as proof

pic rel is one of the coolest 'hacking' tricks (we dont really call it that anymore, its cringe) i learned was how bad actors could exfiltrate (steal) data from a server, by encoding it into base64, but break it up into 63 character strings, send that as broken up dns requests in sequential order as subdomain to your listener (collector device) where you would get them in order, then reconstruct the base64 strings as a whole to decode and have real data
oh and it was done over a SSH tunnel using port 443 as not to set off any alarms and evade detection

Thank you for sharing, I will check out the links.

I need a career change, and I keep feeling pulled to IT. I like logical things (in the technical sense) and I like solving problems methodically. I'm resourceful, though I'm not very creative, and I get nervous talking to people. I've got a homeserver and I took a class based on the Security+ certification and I liked it, but the cert test wasn't part of the class.

-How do I succeed where you have succeeded?
-What abilities / skillsets / personality types are most important for determining success in IT career?
-What are some common, but easy-to-avoid, pitfalls that you keep seeing trip people up?

Bedtime for me now. Thanks again! gngn, based banters
