DUI is interesting because it doesn't punish an actual real crime. Nobody was run over, no crash happened, and there was never any intent to harm. Drunk driving is literally a victimless crime if you don't actually hit anyone. So a DUI is actually a pre-crime for something you could have done, like in minority report. It sets the precedent that someone can just imagine a bad outcome in their head and throw someone in jail for it. And for some reason we just accept this. If I was in charge, every single member of MADD would be thrown in prison for life for robbing so many innocent people of their freedom
