Is everyone richer than we expect? I see a shitload of these and bmw/mercedes SUVs on the road.
>>
>>60895304
I work full time making 40k a year and would struggle to fix my 13 year old car if anything happened. I’m not sure how people making only 20k more than me can afford these things
>>
>>60895304
Most people are nigger rich, they buy or finance cars too expensive to own
>>
>>60895304
they're retarded and in massive amounts of debt. they cope by saying "it's only" $600/month while leaving out
>the loan is for 84 months
>they also pay another $300/month for gas + insurance + wear & tear
>their take home is like $4k/month
>~20% of their take home goes toward their goymobile
>>
>>60895304
most of these people have tens or even hundreds of thousands debt to show off their middle class lifestyle
america is packed full of these retards
>>
>>60895304
it's pretty safe to assume that almost everyone around you is a secret multimillionaire at this point. Nothing makes sense otherwise.
>>
>>60895304

I mean, people will make $65k and then say “hey I can afford to pay $500 a month for a car”. So they’re not rich, but rather make poor financial decisions.

I’m sometimes astounded by just how dumb the average person is. I’m not MacArthur Grant recipient, but it’s deeply shocking to realize who the average person is and how they live. Jury duty blew my mind.
>>
>>60895612
Credit card debt, all debt really is at an ATH. Things will get bad and you’ll see who was swimming without a bathing suit. Watch the unemployment rate tick up another one percent and suddenly you’ll see a wave of boats, snowmobiles, ATVs, etc. pop up on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.
>>
>>60895304
the opposite, everyone is poorer than you expect. Each of those you see on the road represents like $80k+ of debt
>>
>>60895333
>13 year old car
I "make" 93k and drive a 3 20+ year old cars. My newest lowest milage one is a 2004 F150 with 147k miles on it. The other two are 200k+.
>Why 3 cars
Redundancy. There is no public transportation here. Not even a uber or lyft will take me from my house to work. My only option beyond my 3 vehicles is the only cab service in the area that is an old mad with a fleet of ratty dodge caravans thar takes cash only. It'd be over $100 a day to commute to work with him.
>>
Its easy to look rich in America. Everybody with a decent job can get a loan on new car or truck. I agree with everyone else here that for most of them its not a smart way to spend their money. I am grateful to have these people around though to keep up the supply of decent used vehicles that are much cheaper to own.
>>
>>60895632
You can get a brand new Model 3 for 35k (with tax incentives). Pretty good deal
>>
>>60895304
I drive a mercedes in nice condition.
I've gotten comments about it.
It's a 2012, 95k miles on it, cost me 11k. I'm in an area where any other car with that mileage would have been basically the same price. $8k is like the floor for something reliable here.
When you go to a dealership, every mid-tier non luxury car newer than 2015 is like $18k+

IDK how THOSE people are doing it. But I do think it's weird I get called a snob for a reliable car worth around 10k when everyone else is driving cars that cost 2-3x as much and just doesn't have a luxury brand emblem.
>>
>>60895715
You think paying $35k plus tip for an electric goybox with a deteriorating battery is a good deal? More proof /biz/ doesnt know anything about cars. I can buy a 20 year old toyota for $3k that'll run for another ten years with minimal maintenance.
>>
>>60895743
It's a good deal if you're in the market for a new car. That's like me saying that paying $100 for a nice pair of headphones on discount is a good deal and you counter with "i can buy a pair of 1992 SONY earbuds from Goodwill for $10". Okay, and?
>>
>>60895761
Why would you ever buy a new car, retard?

Is maintenance on German cars really that bad? I was looking at 2015 BMW 3 series for 10k with 77k miles. 3 owners but no accidents. Seems like it could have been reliable but the 3 owners had me concerned
>>
>>60895903
it's a perceived status thing. they've done studies, this has been discussed ad nauseum. nobody uses their trucks statistically (they are better off renting an hour a year from home depot). actual tradespeople are better off with vans, little Japanese trucks (with larger beds), and old clunker US trucks.
men like them because they think it makes them look manly (marketing?) and that small cars make them look weak. beneath that the vehicles are comfortable and nice. giant waste of money but consumerism drives the economy.
"im tough and your an idiot for not blowing the money" same mindset driving top-of-the-market real estate purchases, other conspicuous consumption

the crux of the issue is modernist architecture, city planning and zoning. get rid of suburbs and ugly modern architecture and the problem goes away

in a traditional city you dont need a car. everything you need you can walk to. job, market, pub, theater, school, docter, friends and family, etc, all within 10 minute walking radius of your home. no cars, no traffic, none of that non sense. in cities like that, the middle class acts rich by wearing nice clothes and having nice hair cuts, because they're seen in their clothes walking around everywhere. a few nice suits and trip to the barber they can buy outright, its much cheaper than acting rich by buying some stupid lifted dodge ram bought on credit that they park in front of the shitty condo in the suburbs they rent

>>
>>60895304

It's a few things it could be anon.

1.) Their boomer parents are passed and they inherited funds and assets.

2.) Their boomer parents gave them funds and assets.

3.) They successfully profited / scammed off of a business, trading, or working in a field that pays those bills comfortably.

4.) They are in massive debt $100,000+, juggling refinancing, locked in a field of work that they cannot leave or they lose many assets.

Life isn't fair... some people are favored and their lives are made easily, but this doesn't mean you cannot gain for yourself. Esau was favored over Jacob by their father Isiaac, in almost every way. Esau was said to be a hunter and lazy, however still given favor over his brother Jacob who was working and tending his farm and flock.

Pray every day.

Depends on the trade for vans. If all you're hauling is tools a van is great, if you're hauling material it's not so great. We can't have those cab over mini trucks in the US. Old trucks have their benefits, fuel efficiency is not one of them.

whats ironic is that your comment supports my argument, but your too low iq to realize this

suburbs exist because traditional city planning was outlawed, idiot.

zoning laws mandate only residential, or only commericial, or only industrial, can be built in a given area. when zoning laws go away suburbs go away because when people have freedom to build how they like, they build cities how people have built them for 1000s of years, meaning good looking settlements of multifunctional and mixed use buildings that dont require rotting hours of your life away every day in a financed $45000 metal box just to run errands or go to work

Im a burger on vacation in the netherlands and i just rode a bike 50 km out of amsterdam into the farm and country fields to marken and abcoude. You can go wherever you want. In fact, its easier to get around than in the US. Its baffingly for most of burger compatriots because they cant comprehend going to another town without a car

I live in a middle upper class area and many people I know are making well into 6 figures and living pay check to pay check. I briefly fell into that trap when I was younger but had the realizations of how stupid trying to ‘keep up with your neighbors’ is. Some families I know are 1-2 paycheck from being completely broke because they’d rather drive nice cars and trucks and spend lavishly on vacation than save for their future.

A lot of people actually believe their 401k and social security will be around. They think this is the recession and we're on the cusp of making new highs and they'll be making even more money down the line. That could be any further from the truth, however.
