It's recommended on case by case basis if it makes sense for you as an Individual. Your average renters are poorfags who are struggling to pay all their bills on time and barely save anything. You have many broke people bringing down the average. On the other hand every rich person owns a home or multiple homes which works in favor of the rich people column. The single 30 year old male who earns 120k in a high cost of living area and invests 50% of his take home pay instead of paying 600k a house isn't going to be reflected in the broader statistics.

My rent cost less than a mortgage + taxes would and I get all the benefits of renting and none of the hassles of owning and my money performs better in the stock market which is liquid and much easier to deal with than selling a fucking house
