Never, EVER help your parents or relatives. What you consider "help" they will see as an opportunity to try to get more money from you. They WILL fuck you over.
If you are already helping them, STOP IMMEDIATELY. Think of it 10 times, especially about the ways they will try to scam you or extort you. Take note of that and assume it WILL happen. Then just abandon the attempt at helping them. Leave them ASAP and don't look back. Just forget everything. You might have lost some time or money now, but you will end up losing a lot more in the future.
If they victimize themselves, stop giving a shit. None of their problems was your responsibility, they are not your problem and should not ever be until they are too old to manage their own lives, and even then you should pay someone else to take care of them. In fact, you were and STILL ARE their responsibility. THEY should have given you a good life, and not the reverse.

I'm posting this because I wish someone had told me something like this decades ago.

I am sorry for you, but I honeslty and sincerely cannot put myself in your shoes.

My family aren't leeches and I'm grateful for being related to them.

Take care and good luck

Also never tell people you have money.

They will always discount your problems and throw shade when you complain.
It'll expose the type of people they are and you'll be lonely.

Class war is real even if you don't want to believe it.

Money has a way of ruining almost everything. I say this and spend a lot of time on this board but it's true. At least in my experience.

Based, I was told my whole life I'd work for the family business and when it came down to it no one in the family would cede an inch to give me an opportunity.

So all those days I did bitch work painting, mowing, filing, mailers, etc. were instantly forgotten when I wanted a spot there.
My dad told me to work for someone else in the space to gain experience.

I got into drugs and eventually got arrested, but the silver lining is I found silk road in 2012 and hodl'd while on probation.

I knew this since I got my first job and investing from the very beginning. Only person I told is my mom and even then I always lowballed how much I really got.

good for you. I'm sad I had to learn the hard way.
I was born dirt poor. my mom always claimed to be the victim (still does), but as soon as she heard me talk about money she showed her true face and tried to stab me at the worst moments.

yup. I do with other people, but... it's difficult for me to keep my mouth shut with my loved ones.
but yeah, as soon as people hear about money, they start treating you in a complete different way. it might even be dangerous to talk about money to people.

congrats. I wish I had been that lucky and sense of things.
having to build everything by myself and having to learn things the hard way sucks.
