reposting from last thread

Hi, I just opened a Roth IRA and a Brokerage account on Fidelity. Which index fund would be best to do for the Roth? And also for the Individual account, I'm treating it as a side-thing for more short term cash rather than as a retirement thing, so should I still invest only in ETFs or go for mutual funds?

Roth with brokerage account
Personal brokerage account

First understand the differences between Roth and IRA. Do you also have a 401K?
Investments depend on what you want to do in each account. You can grow your investments faster in a retirement account because you do not pay taxes on gains. You will pay taxes on transactions in your personal account if that transaction is a taxable event.
Investing in individual stocks is more risky, some ETFs more "stable." Look at the ETFs you are considering and then look into which stocks are in the ETF and at what %, you will see many of the stocks are the same. If you do not know what to do, then go the ETF route.

That does not make any sense. Both are retirement plans, one pre employment tax, and one after. But there are some disadvantages to the Roth too. Learn more about your 401k, and if you can open a brokerage account tied to the 401k. Nothing wrong with having both, just know the advantages and disadvantages of both and maximize both for your needs.

There must be SOME sort of correlation that statisticians have determined from the market, right? Something that we can exploit to hedge returns just a LITTLE bit?

Like "markets typically gain the most between 4-5pm" "markets have a 10% higher chance of crashing in january." Something like that.

>>60954551
ahhhh you see. some of the low ones you should buy because they're low, but if they're more of a loser than they are low, they'll go lower, so buy a winner instead even though it's high. unless it's more of a winner than it is high, then you're just buying high which isn't ideal

My YTD is also all screwed up because I blew past my principal and cashed out gains. It's annoying that RH doesn't account for this but at least I know I'm winning. I think YTD is closer to 250%.

Still thinking of what plays to take from here. Holding onto some SPY puts in the meantime.

Works until it doesn't, catastrophically. I still remember the financial crisis, and I'm glad I was young and poor enough that it didn't really impact me much.
>>
>>60954433
>Which index fund would be best to do for the Roth?
I'd go with VHGEX (global equity fund) as a baseline and then spmo for higher growth potential. Higher growth in a tax advantage account will compound.
For a taxable account where you'll be exposed to short term basis taxation anyway, I'd suggest xdte, qdte, kgld, and tspy. Exposure to gold and 2 indexes, high total return, and distributions classed as return of capital meaning they don't get taxed until you receive 100% of your initial investment in dividends. Reinvest to grow and pull from dividend income as needed

>Must be quite a job to get paid over $23,500 in your first paycheck of the year
I was just making a point, some people think you have to contribute the same every month. I had to wait two months to hit the max. It was handy being able to dial it up and down the contributions from why web browser. The amount you can contribute depends on the plan and your age, so be sure to really look into to it so you know exactly what you can do if you want to.
>>
>>60954555
In total, all market participants as a whole earn the stock market's return, minus costs.
Some people make more than the market, some people make less than the market.
Trying to make more than the market always incurs higher costs.
Statistics show that the vast majority of people will underperform the market after costs in 1 year periods.
For longer periods, virtually everyone will underperform the market after costs.

But Jack Bogle already found the stock market's cheat code. Just buy a very low cost index fund, and you will get as close to the market's return as possible and in your lifetime you will outperform the vast majority of people out there.

Because that shit doesn't matter. S&P500 Index funds crush all of them. I have like 5 different investment accounts split between individual individual stocks, S&P500 mutual funds, and international mutuals, and treasuries. If I went all in on the S&P500 from the beginning and ignored, I'd be up significantly more than I am now.

Realizing that you don't have a crystal ball and just buying the boomer index is the hardest pill to swallow, but you'll happier knowing you really don't have to watch the market anymore.

but if i invest into an index or an etf, i also get bundled in with shit companies, like AMC or others that are to be delisted like BIGGQ was. meanwhile some cryptoshit is over 88% since last year.

my take is that if you have an actual job that takes time, you cannot put in enough time to do your own research. My MO recently has been slurping SSO and O and not looking much into it. Part of my reason to move into real estate (O) is that if we get a big crash I will sell it all and slurp the fuck out of UPRO or TQQQ for the ride back up. I made some very nice gains since April doing this.

It's easier to recognize a good deal on SPY during turmoil than on any random company.

Not everyone has all of their income coming from a source and not everyone wants all of their money in a retirement account. As an example I have

>After Tax Brokerage
>401k w/ 9% match
>TSP w/ 5% match

really great to have people walking aroun with cameras at their fuckin glasses. I also like to walk around with my phone in front of me recording everybody. Guess I'll just do that when I see people with those glasses, just so they know.

Why is everyone dooming about inflation as if 3% a year that much? China has had insane inflation for years, 10% 20%, and is still fine.
>>
>>60955587
because inflation is at a 2025 high (excluding January) and unemployment is also at a 2025 high (excluding january)

usually macroeconomic policies that is good for solving one problem, tends to exacerbate the other so you get caught in a very ugly trap
it's called stagflation
>>
>>60955587
bears desperately want the economy to collapse so they can live their fantasy of being the only person smart enough to buy gold

But buying Gold was smart

January I bought 4 tickers listed here: KULR, SOUN, SOFI, I forgot the 4th. Never heard of them before. I put in about 15k into them and 3 of the 4 doubled (SoFi just crabbed) and I sold about two weeks later.

>I can type without anyone seeing

>You can literally see a person write with his fingers on the table

>>60955587
I am a saver, not a spender, so every tick of inflation is like the government spitting in my face. Would be different if I was an entrepreneur or something.

i am slightly obsessed with wearable computers but i am not convinced that miniaturization is at the point yet where you can get a suitably powerful computer in the form factor of a pair of glasses
>>
>>60955627
yes

I guess these glasses make duolingo 100% redundant now though

couldn't you get away with being a creepy pervert with these things though?
>>
>>60955631
in japan any device that takes a photo is required by law to make a loud shutter noise that can't be muted to deter perverts from taking upskirts
i expect similar legislation will make its way to the US at some point
>>
Cameraquality looks dogshit
Why would I wear that instead of a GoPro as a sportsman? And the appropriate glasses you wear for safety, not something that can smash like that.

>>60955631
I actually don't know what you mean with "came in their pants"

now he's just talking about generating boring AI slop

so uh if things stop increasing in price that's umm..that's actually bad. If things get cheaper its literally armageddon. Basic free market capitalism

it's not. we need inflation to make consumer sector profitable. nobody wants to spend more than $10-$20 on anything still. need inflation correction. inflation is about 6-8% anyways the 3-5% number is a joke. also most other countries have higher inflation than america and are waiting for america to catch up.

If by "saver", you mean "investor", then you realize inflation doesn't hurt your "savings", right?
